@arhi What does it mean for a slicer to integrate with DWC, and what would be the advantage?

@arhi What does it mean for a slicer to integrate with DWC, and what would be the advantage?

e.g. from cura you can upload file to octoPrint and monitor print status directly from cura (dunno about DWC/RRF I never tried that from cura), from PrusaSlicer you can "send generated g-code to RRF or octoPrint and start (or not) a print" ... so basically "basic integration" would be a button to not only "export g-code to disk" but to send it to RRF over network directly from the slicer, the "full integration" would be ability to monitor print and change stuff (cancel print, pause/resume print, change speed modifier, extrusion modifier, temperature, send g-code..) during print.

that's how I see it anyhow.

s3d and ideamaker allow you to use "postprocessing script" where you can use curl to send print to RRF/octoPrint (I do it like that)... dunno about other slicers never needed any integration as I never used them long/often enough to warrant it.

One can say "but it's just 2 click to save to disk and upload to dwc" but actually - it is not. it is 2 clicks when you have one printer, when you have multiple printers it is much more complicated and this way you have printer address directly in the profile for that printer so when you slice to that printer you send the code to exactly that printer... way easier and less potential for mistake

@arhi I will check it out. Thank you. Want to share some Profiles ? Pretty new to all of this 🙂

I can but I doubt you will like them very much 😄 ... I always suggest ppl make profiles from scratch, that is the only way to learn.

here is my "draft" profile (0.5mm layer, 0.6mm nozzle, PETG)

@mrehorstdmd It means it can send the gcode right to the printer. I mean easy enough with webcontrol

My favourites lately are IceSL, PrusaSlicer and SuperSlicer (prusa fork).

Fusion 360 slicer is still free, and worth every penny! 😛 free as in included with the license. I’m excited about arc support, but hopefully they also allow us to increase the output resolution for non-circular splines, or slice Bézier curves directly. AFAIK, marlin already supports G5 bezier control points.

you sure? it's gone from my f360 since few days ago

                I’m excited about arc support

last week when I tested it the support for arc (G2) was not there yet. The only slicer that directly support ARC from the ones I tested is KISS (and that postprocessor in python made for octoprint)

Where are you looking in Fusion for the FFF slicing? It's in the manufacture workspace, under the "additive" tab.

G2/3 arc support is not yet in the FFF slicing of Fusion, but they said it would be coming soon in a blog entry.

the whole "manufacture workspace" is gone 😞

was there just 2 days ago

I think I seen somewhere some notification that some trial was over but.. anyhow I was not too impressed with it 😞 so far IM is no1 for me.. but will be checking the f360 if I manage to get it back

It's not bad, even know how to send gcode directly to duet board 😄

There is no reason it would be gone. It's still included in the free license. Can you... like... look again? Or restart Fusion 360 or something? I guess if you're not worried about it, don't worry about it... but it's definitely still there and included free.

It hasn't had an update or even dev activity in a year now. It's either dead or deep stealth.

I use PrusaSlicer when I just need a quick mechanical part done.

I use the master branch of Cura when I need more detailed control.

(oddly enough https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Fusion-360-Free-License-Changes.html still list manufacturing for Personal license, but after they introduced that page back in 2019 I've been waiting for other features to be silently dropped from the personal license, time to find and learn an alternative)

that "30 releases later" was quote from the website 😄

I tested it few months ago and it was "lot improved" to what I tested last time (~year+ ago)

I "readded it" back trough extensions by "purchasing it" with credits (not money)

but this does not look like an "included free" option ... I do have "unlimited" balance as I have "education" account but I don't feel very comfortable with it after this incident 😞 ... I think I'll keep investing in free slicers

its not the first free feature being removed, when they created the teams feature we lost cloud translation (for importing solidworks etc) with no option to do it locally.

I oscillate between superslicer (PrusaSlicer fork with a bunch of interesting added features) and KISS (premium license). I'd stick with KISS if it had better positioning tools, support controls, and vase mode. I'd stick with superslicer if volumetric auto speed worked with gap fill, and if the default supports would be easier to deal with on single material machines. Currently, it seems I flip-flop between both whenever the issues named annoy me enough for a switch.

Some years ago I decided never to use stolen software any more and the last two (altium designer and solid works) were removed from my computer(s) in 2016. I moved to onShape as it was free (but all your designs are public - that was ok for me) but then they fiddled with licencing and terms and conditions and I moved to fusion360 (I like onShape much more). Looks like fusion is not a solution neither 😞 ... so attm openSCAD and FreeCAD look more and more like a solution 😞

That is not the manufacture workspace, that is the manufacture EXTENSION.

The workspaces are on the left of your screen, where it says "Design" or "Generative Design" or "Render" or "Manufacture."
