We have a small number of generation 1 prototypes a

    What's the price on them?

About the same as gold dust?

Seriously, these are most definitely not for end users, only for OEMs to evaluate. We are supplying them to selected OEMS free of charge, because will drop firmware support for them once we make the pre-production boards available. If you are an OEM, then feel free to contact us by PM or email - although I don't know whether we have any boards still available.

@dc42 ah okay fair enough! I’m by no means an OEM. They need them due development for sure.

are you doing an updated version of the smart effector with canbus?

Not yet. It would only make sense IMO in conjunction with a very low mass extruder drive. However, you could mount a Tool Board on a flying extruder.

Yes. It would also need to be small enough to be mounted just below the effector, or possibly just above it.

The biggest change we've made is to add CAN bus support

Excellent decision! This is the budget but expandable board that I think many people will be looking for. I hope you order lots of them!

We have made some changes to the design (as @dc42 mentioned the CAN expansion plan etc) and the next prototypes are on order. I would not want to commit to a timeline for general availability yet though, still targeting November!

Hey, do we have a price range that this is targeting? Will it be similar to the old maestro?

Working out whether to hold out for this or if it will end up out of my price range anyway

It will be cheaper than the Duet 2 but a bit more expensive than the Maestro. We have not set the final price yet.

Our best estimate is that we will manufacture a pre-production batch in November and the first full production batch in January. However, this time scale depends on progress with CE certification tests.

Testing of the second generation Duet 3 Mini prototypes is nearly complete. Here's the WiFi version controlling a tool board over CAN.

@dc42 I noticed that CAN is only using 1 pair and in the past (somewhere) you said testing was in progress to verify the safe wire length while using just 1 pair.
Can you provide the results of that testing, assuming it's in the new board and the tests were finished?
Could do with one less wire pair on the printers I'm building at the moment (with Duet3)

You only need 1 pair between each pair of boards. The case where you need to use 2 pairs but 1 may be enough is when connecting a tool board to the tool distribution board. One pair connects the tool board to the previous board in the chain, the other pair connects it to the next board, or the termination resistor if it is the last board.
