Upload speed via Lan
I´m uploading my gcode files via cable not wifi.
To upload my Dome from R2D2 it take over 10 Minutes.
Is there a way to speed it up?
Or is the reason because of old style serial to lan converters?
thx

@icy_snake what upload speed are you getting, and which Duet are you using?
WiFi upload speeds to Duets are typically 600 to 800 kbytes/sec with a strong WiFi signal. Ethernet upload speeds about the same or a little faster.
-
I´m using on the modix a DUET3D Duet 2 Ethernet card v1.04 with a duex 5 channel board.
-
@icy_snake what upload speed are you getting? What size is the file that takes 10 minutes to upload over Ethernet?
-
@dc42 my upload speed is around 429.8 KiB/s
the file is a small file of 289441 KB
so it´s more than 10 minutes to upload.
What happens if i use the full plattform from my printer 1800mm x 660 x660 for a project? it will take hours, or?
Do y need the file?
thx

That's about what I get with my Duet2 1.04

One way would be to switch to a Duet3 board that allows for a SBC connection like a RaspberryPi. The Pi takes over networking and file management. Uploading to a wired Pi4 would be substantially faster. The Duet2 has limited ram capacity for buffering the upload before writing to the SD card.

@phaedrux yes 290MB is small.
My small printer can handle 600x600x660.
On the big printer 1800x600x600So files sizes are easy between 200MB and 1000MB or more.

@phaedrux ok thx for thee information

@icy_snake your upload speed is somewhat lower than we would expect. You may be able to improve it somewhat by using a better SD card. Format it using the largest cluster size possible, which is normally 64kb. The maximum SD card size supported is 32Gb.
-
@icy_snake Also check if your current SD card is nearly full, and if files are being fragmented, which will slow down read and write speeds. You can check free space and cluster size of the SD card on the Duet by sending M39.

@droftarts thanks for that information:
m39
SD card in slot 0: capacity 7.95Gb, free space 7.91Gb, speed 20.00MBytes/sec, cluster size 64kbthats my result

@icy_snake you can also use M122 P104 to test the speed of writing to the SD card. See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Reference/Gcodes#m122-diagnose.
-
@dc42 many thx
here is the result
SD read speed for 10.0Mbyte file was 1.24Mbytes/sec
15.2.2022, 18:37:40 SD write speed for 10.0Mbyte file was 2.14Mbytes/sec

@icy_snake not a space issue, then! What firmware version are you running? Newer versions tend to be a bit faster. Sent M115 to check.
