I just stumbled across this design at github and thought I'd post it here.

@moth4017 Cool! Any hard to find parts?

I posted it here, but it's actually relevant for any CAD designer. May the mods decide where to put it...

@moth4017, what is the approximate cost of the BOM parts? Is there a single source available for all the parts or do you buy everything from different sources and pay freight for each piece?
I don't recall what I paid for my 3DConnexion wireless spacemouse (love the wireless part) but if I had to buy the parts individually out of the USA (I wouldn't think Chinese components would make sense for a precision instrument), I would probably pay more for freight (not including the parts cost) then the ready made product.
I am in Canada and it would cost between $30 to $40 for freight for each supplier. Workable if you have a single source but not if you end up buying from a bunch of vendors.

OK, I looked at the BOM in detail and everything is available via AliExpress so costs (parts ad freight) would indeed be very reasonable.

I do love my 3DConnexionmouse though and I think it is a bargain and a joy to use!

@o_lampe I've made one before. All it does is emulate a mouse so doesn't work anywhere near the same as a space mouse

@jay_s_uk said in Orbion, the 3D space mouse (open source):

OK, but it has NeoPixels 😉
It wouldn't take much efford to add a few buttons, but I actually don't know what is missing with regards to a real space mouse?

@o_lampe you can't manipulate models in the same way as with a space mouse. As I say, it's just a mouse
