@NexxCat yes the homing works fine and reports 0
-
@GT1Za
and just so I've got this right in my head. Starting from Y home, you move the bed using the jog controls and when Y is reported at 220, the bed is actually at the end of it's travel (IE, at 510)? -
@NexxCat
thats correct
I havent homed the other axis so they are reporting 0 here.
-
@GT1Za
The only explanation I have for that is that the Y axis steps/mm aren't correct. Can you take a photo of the Y axis motor and pulley? I'll see if I can tell whether it's a 20T or not. -
not sure if that helps. Pretty tough getting to the back of this printer.
The motor is about double the height of the normal ones, but its the standard S5 motor.

@GT1Za
I'm afraid I'm stumped on this one. That looks like a normal 20 tooth pulley and I've checked the Marlin source for the CR10 S5. It definitely uses 80 steps/mm.If the bed was moving an insufficient distance, I'd say maybe the stepper was skipping, or the belt was loose, but it's moving too much which doesn't make sense.
Probably a stupid question, but have you tried powering the Duet off and on again, letting it re-load config.g?
-
@NexxCat Ill give it a shot now
-
@NexxCat Restart made no difference.
-
@GT1Za
Was it doing this prior to us changing stuff to get the BLTouch working? or hadn't it been tested? -
@NexxCat never tested it, I had just checked that there was movement.
-
@GT1Za
I've just compared my config to yours and can't see anything wrong I'm afraid I can't help further on this one, I've absolutely no idea why the axis is moving more than it should be when everything is configured correctly.Hopefully someone else can chime in with some ideas, but as far as I'm aware now, once this is solved, the BLTouch should work correctly.
I'll keep this thread in mind and if I come up with anything, I'll pop back and reply. Sorry I couldn't solve this for you!
-
@NexxCat thanks man! you have been amazing. Ill keep googling to see if I can get anything. Hopefully someone else can maybe assist.
-
@GT1Za
Hey, just had a thought. Maybe try swapping the X and Y motor connections on the Duet, then update config.g like so:Change: M584 X0 Y1 Z2 E3 ; set drive mapping to M584 Y0 X1 Z2 E3 ; set drive mapping
It would be interesting to know if the issue moves to the X axis, or if it continues on Y. If it moves, I'd be inclined to talk to one of the mods / admins if the board is in warranty and see what input they have. If it stays on the Y axis, then I'm back to being stumped

https://3dprinting.stackexchange.com/questions/7692/stepper-motor-for-cr10-s5-y-axisBelt looks kind of loose to me.
Your E steps for the extruder is still set to the stock 93ish. The Hemera is 415ish.
Ive always liked the idea of keeping the z stop incase the BLtouch fails. Is there no way to keep both?
No, unfortunately it doesn't work like that. But when configured and wired correctly the BLtouch is pretty reliable as an endstop. As a safety precaution it's a good idea to drop motor current during homing so that if the probe does fail it will just stall the motor without causing damage.
Can you do a quick test of your Y axis? Send G92 Y0 to mark it as homed. Then jog it 10mm and measure the actual distance moved. That will help us verify if your steps per mm is correct.

Your X Y offsets for the probe are improbable. It must be measured. https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Test_and_calibrate_the_Z_probe#Section_Measuring_Probe_X_Y_Offset

@Phaedrux Thanks, I had already adjusted the esteps on the extruder to 409. This seems to be the recommended starting point, but I will adjust this when the machine is finished in the testing phase and correctly wired with wire management in place. But again thanks for the reminder!
I will take measurements now, but Im pretty certain its going just over double length.

@Phaedrux
I am now completely confused... I did as you asked.
Homed the Y
issued command to move 100, and the plate has moved exactly 10cm -
@GT1Za Sounds right. 100mm is 10cm.
Or am I missing something?P.
-
@PaulHew haha thats why I am so confused!! if that is right then why am I getting an issue and it only going to 220 and not 500 before reaching the end of the bed??

@GT1Za Please send details of M115
