Not a Duet question, large print surface question

  • I would like to ask opinions on large format print surfaces. My print bed is 610mmx610mm which makes it difficult to find options for. Currently I have a Buildtak surface on it, and it's been good to me. But managing the 200mm scraper to remove prints is tiresome 😑
As much as I would like to have a magnetic spring steel surface to remove prints from, it just doesn't seem to be an option. Which is why I am here, asking you guys for guidance.

    All advice is much appreciated

  • I have a large print surface and use "printbite". I never have any problem with first layers not sticking and all parts free themselves once the bed has cooled down bellow 30 degrees so eliminates the need for any scraping.

  • The largest size I could find in printbite was 500x500, seems to be a common stopping point.

My bed is 640 x640. If you type printbite in your browser and look for the link at flex3d.com you can choose large sizes I chose the nearest size which was 650 x650. You then have the option to ask them to cut it to size.

I gave you the link the way I did because you may not find the link for printbite directly on the flex3d.com website. (Strange but true!)
    Hope this helps.

  • O.o that's the exact site I looked up. Got to 500x500 then went round. Might have to Email them.

Thanks a lot for the advice before I forget again

  • FYI If you have DC42's infrared zprobe, choose the matt black option. I guarantee it works a treat!

  • I use a BLtouch at the moment, would have chose matt black option anyway.

Just looked again and only goes to 500x500, might have sold out of larger sizes

Glad to help. I just gone to their website and found at the moment are only advertising up to 500 x 500 but they definately do bigger.

  • I'll send them an email tomorrow. Could end up back to Buildtak, they do a 609x609. Not gonna cry for 1x1mm

  • Have you tried searching for the two part magnetic surface in that size. I got one on one of my ender 3 pro's and you just lift the upper surface off to easily pull the print off.

  • @chas2706 Yes, about a month ago I contacted Wham Bam and they said:

Their system sounds good & well priced comparatively. Unfortunately they still don't offer any bigger than 500x500

  • Just an update on this topic. The only place I have had any luck so far is on AliExpress. Though they do not list the size I required they were more than happy to accommodate. The process to finally order is a bit of a PITA as it is not a stock line in their store.

    https://a.aliexpress.com/_dSRK8LJ?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.209a3e5fIe2hQc

I ended up purchasing 3 of these to get one complete set plus a spare print surface. This came to round figures $200 AUD which I think equates to $4 USD 🤥

Anyway, hope this will help someone else who has a large printer

I've heard good things about this sellers build plates and his service, and am looking at one of these in 400x400 for my own upcoming build.

It will be good to hear how it works out for you.

  • @Corexy As soon as I have a chance to test it I will update the post. Options seem to be pretty limited for larger format printers at the moment. Kind of a case of take what you can get.

I'm kind of wishing I went with 300x300, but I did pull it up at 400x400 for just that reason.

Heater mats jump right up in price too.

  • @Corexy 500x500 seems not TOO hard to find, even Wham Bam has a 500 available. Over that is a PITA to find anything for, especially if you don't want to pay $500
