Hemera goes wild! heat and no moving...
-
hey,
I just installed the hemera anc changed some date in my config.g , but the hemera just make weird sounds and it´s going to be hot.
Some Ideas what could be wrong?

what is getting hot. the nozzle, the motor or the entire hemera?
-
the motor...
-
the motor is rated at 1.33A rated current.
you should set it to 60-90% of the rated current.
see
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Setting_motor_currents
try 75% -
ok.... 75% motor current. Still not moving, weird sound.
-
recheck the cabling. one phase might have disconnected.
if that happens you get a loud sound and no movement -
ok... it´s not getting hot anymore.
I connected a different Nema and it´s working good. Connecting the hemera again and it´s still making this sound and no moving.
Is it possible that the cable need to connect different?
Are there different options?
thanks -
@barbarossa-cologne said in Hemera goes wild! heat and no moving...:
Is it possible that the cable need to connect different?
Are there different options?Yes, you must identify the motor phases for each motor and connect it appropriately. Not every motor is the same.
It could also be a loose crimp or bad connection.
Do you see any error messages in the gcode console?
-
@Phaedrux
When I connect my old normal nema 17, it´s working fine. So I don´t think it´s a wiring problem. -
Does the motor have a plug of it's own or is the wiring internal to the motor?
-
@Phaedrux
Plug -
Well the problem as described would indicate that one of the motor phase wires isn't making a good connection at some point. If the same wiring works on one motor, but not the other, then it's most likely at the motor plug. Lucky it hasn't damaged the driver. Replace that motor.
-
ok.... so do you really think that the motor isn´t working correct?
tomorrow I´ll get a new E3D Hemera. Should I connect the new one to test it?
thanks!! -
Well if you think the wiring is good and it does work with another motor, then the motor plug pin may not be up to spec. I may want to try with new wiring just to test the motor for sure.
-
use a multimeter and measure the phases. see if each phase has the same resistance
-
@Phaedrux
OK... I´ll connect the new motor tomorrow. -
@Veti
resistance is fine.Thanks
-
have you tried a different cable?
-
When using a motor with a plug on the body and a separate cable, you MUST confirm the phases with a multimeter or by other means, because the pinout of the connector is not standardised. Although if the cable was supplied by E3D as part of the Hemera kit, it ought to match.

I found the hemera wiring to be different from my stock motor. I had to swap pins 3&4 when using the hemera.
here is my wiring table i used with the duet:
