Cura Sliced Prints Have Craters On Seams
-
so just finished my build and when i prrint parts i see at the end of later and seam spot nozzle stops for about 1 sec before moving up makes makes a crater. I think it might be related to retract time .. my retract is 6.5mm but if i reduce thhat i get spider web. is there any way to remove that behaviour? im comparing to makerbot and i dont see that on maker bot... actually my seam likes quite bad comparing to makerbot (tried different setting) also good to mention bowen line is long but i think its not related as nozzle is ironing spot with heat /delay
any idea? its this cura related or machine settings?
help is appreciated
tnx -
@alexus what version Cura?
-
latest one form their website.. if im not mistaken 4.9

Can you share your config.g?
How fast are you trying to retract?
-
@phaedrux
sure will send config when i get to printer
speed of retraction is E0 speed? -
@alexus said in Cura Sliced Prints Have Craters On Seams:
speed of retraction is E0 speed?
It would be set in your slicer, but ultimately limited by the maximum E speed set in config.g, along with the acceleration and jerk settings there.

@phaedrux
well i guess flow of extrusion was my other question and i cold not find where to sent flow any where so i was controlling it with slider to set it 300% as at 100% i was not getting enough material to hold model layers. Never the less i not really think its hole burned is flow related as i think if i some hor reduce amount of delay to 0 then there will be no heating and melting of a crater at seamwhats jerk?

whats jerk?
Think if it as the minimum speed to use when doing a sharp direction change.
If your flow rate is very low you might not have the correct filament diameter set in the slicer, or your E steps per mm could be very wrong.
Try going through this calibration guide: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Guide/Ender+3+Pro+and+Duet+Maestro+Guide+Part+4:+Calibration/40
It would also help to see your config.g and a sample sliced gcode file from cura.

@phaedrux
here is G config, also i did calibrate E0 to extract exact amount as expected ex 100mm gets me 100mm on cold filment. i will go through link to see if i missed anythingfor filament diameter its 1.7 measured, and i think cura setting was 1.83 something (will double check)

Your Z and E speeds are quite slow. Try these values
M566 Z100 E3000 ; set maximum instantaneous speed changes (mm/min) M203 Z800 E6000 ; set maximum speeds (mm/min) M201 Z200 E2500 ; set accelerations (mm/s^2)
It looks like your retraction is set to 6.5mm and had very slow extruder speeds, so those pauses were probably from waiting for the extruder to retract. Have you tuned your retraction distance and speed yet?
G1 F1500 E-6.5
6.5mm at 25mm/s, but your previous settings for E limited the speed to 20mm/s
Try increasing the retraction speed in the slicer to 50mm/s or 60mm/s
That may even let you reduce the distance used and still avoid the spider webs. -
i did not tube retraction speed, i guess need to go throuhdocument and see how to do it
will try to increase speed and accesration parametersin CURA retraction speed is hidden i guess? i did not see it in list but will double check again... lets play around when current print is done
tnx for helping

If you alter the M566, M201 and M203 commands in your config.g as I showed above that will remove the firmware speed limit you currently have. Then all you have to do is increase the retraction speed in Cura and I think that should help quite a bit.
If you want to get more detailed into retraction tuning you can use firmware retraction which lets you set the retraction speed and distance within config.g and alter it during the print itself to more quickly try new values, as opposed to baking the values into the sliced gcode file.

@phaedrux
so updated file w/ extruder speed ... things got better yet there are still some artifact... i will read about tuning flow and and back to this... probably will finish my current job 1st as i need 10000 of peaces in any quality :)))
