While I think that @T3P3Tony is the best thing since sliced bread (well actually all developers and all the people here that hand out a continuous stream of great advise), I am getting tired of seeing the pinned post from T3P3Tony titled "Guide for posting requests for help". It pops up every time I refresh this web page. I am set up to display new posts only and while it would seem reasonable to pop up this thread once a month for example as a reminder, I am still not going to read it more than once and it popping up every flippin' time I refresh my page isn't doing anything other than annoy me. I think this crept in during the last web site update ....

@jens55 We added a new category of pinned topic that shows up every time. The recent "Forum Maintenance" thread is an example of it's useful usage. I'll ask @T3P3Tony if leaving the "Guide for posting" thread was intentional. Weirdly, I don't see the thread pinned, so it might be Tony forgot about turning it off too.

We just added an option for us to [pin posts at the top of the unread view. I assume that's the post you are referring to or is it popping up somewhere else?

As we explore this feature we will definitely take on feedback, such as this, about what to pin, and if it should be pinned only if not read.

@droftarts at this point leaving it pinned, even if read, is intentional.

it will e pinned to the top of your unread view.

@T3P3Tony Ah yes, if I click on unread it does show. I usually just click on the icon or Duet3D, and have my 'homepage' set to 'Recent', where it doesn't show.

@T3P3Tony, I generally look at the 'unread' view and yes, that is where it kept showing up even after I had read it (and even after I set that particular post to 'ignore' or whatever it is called). I don't know if it shows up anywhere else.
I don't know if it is fixed yet but when I just opened the 'unread' window it did NOT show - thank you if it was fixed.

For a while there, the problem of continually seeing the pinned message seemed to go away and I thought the issue was fixed. Well, it's baaaaack 😞
It really makes the 'unread messages' window untenable for me.

@jens55 Unless you really want to read every post on the forum I find just using the "recent" (little clock face) view as my home view works pretty well.

@Phaedrux, while I don't read every post, I DO read every post subject line. From there I decide which posts I want to read and then I would delete (mark read) all remaining posts. It is (IMHO) cleaner than the 'recent posts' view. Also, the recent posts view has (as far as I can see) no method of marking posts as read short of actually opening them. So, if there are 15 posts, I read 3 and 12 remain as unread. Next time I open the 'recent posts' view, I have to spend a number of brain cycles figuring out which posts I have already deemed 'not interesting enough'. It is a pain in the behind. So in the meantime, while still harbouring hopes that saner heads will prevail, I look at 'recent posts' read everything I want to read, flip to 'unread posts' trying my best to ignore the very top line if it shows as already read and then I delete everything. A bloody nuisance and most annoying.
As a side point, I am surprised that there aren't more people jumping up and down about this change. Either very few people are looking at the 'new posts' view or they have a much higher capacity to put up with crap. I admit that I have acquired a number of curmudgeon like traits in my old age and the inability to put up with being force fed is one of these.
Maybe if you only look at the posts once every few days it might be acceptable but I look at things several times a day (for now) and am not too pleased about being assaulted by the same post that hasn't changed in months that keeps popping up over and over and over ..... On top of that, even if there was a change/update to that particular thread, there is no way I would actually open it to see what has changed. Showing that thread on every opening of the window totally defeats the whole purpose of the post!
I say it again - if it would come up once every month or so, it would be acceptable. It would come up anyway if there was an update to the thread so why try to force feed the readers ?

@jens55 I have unpinned it for now for people who have read it.

Damn dude, you're on a roll with bumping old threads 🤣

Use "Recent" as your start-/mainscreen for the forum and you will only get threads with new posts at the top.
