      @dc42 I can check again, but since the X and Y steppers go through the motions (you can hear it quietly whine as if accelerating and decelerating just as expected with actual movement), I would think so.

      I did get one of the extruder steppers actually moving (only on retract for some reason even with M302 P1) by double checking the wiring between the stepstick and stepper. Shouldn't have assumed all the steppers had the same pinout.

      Edit: ooh, wait, maybe I have accidentally swapped En and Dir...

      Edit2: Yup, not only had I turned the 3pin Dupont the wrong way around on the shield, I had also gotten the two rows on the confused on the Duet itself when connecting up E1 and E2. All steppers working now.

      Mystery solved! Thank you.

      @Benny I'm not using a bunch of crimps between the PSUs as shown, just to terminate the wires and attach them to the PSU terminals.

      Would tinned wire ends be better? Why?

      @dc42 thank you.

      I could then just leave one of the duet shield stepper drivers without a motor attached with no ill effects from driving a stepper via the stepstick attached in parallel?

      I shall have to do some calculations on the power consumption.

      Edit: It appears meanwell 15W 24V PSU's are of similar cost to the step-up converters. Could that be wired in parallel with a higher-wattage 12V PSU on the mains side, to not have to use a second power switch and mains cable?

      There is no absolutely right or wrong answer to "connect circuit ground to earth ground" on Printers and CNC and other motion controlled machines.

      I do help a lot of people get the glitches out of their CNC, and I can tell you the policy I've developed over the years:

      "Star ground" everything that needs a circuit ground. This is a long topic of its own... the shortest version is: Run a ground wire back to ONE central location for each ground; no chaining".

      DO NOT connect circuit ground to Mains (earth, wall) ground. UNLESS the machine still glitches. Then, DO connect them.

      How is that for "eat your cake and have it too"??

      @dc42 Thanks, that's the guide I was using.
