    • RE: Missing Steps - Cant Print SpreadCycle StealthChop tuning help

@dc42 Fairly productive day with Ian using the new fw as you know, we couldn't replicate the bangs (large travel bangs causing layer shifts) and Ian explained the mini bangs during infill are the switchovers (these never caused layer shifts, mini bangs was just how described them) Had some fun and games with homing but I think we've got something like with maybe just a bit of fine tuning.
Need to check through the config later / tomorrow and see if I can rattle off a couple of prints, fingers crossed no bangs 😉 I did mention yesterday under the 2+2 fw I couldn't get it to bang air printing. Only just back home so ill update later / tomorrow.

Ian and Dave thanks for the support both.

Thanks to everyone involved in this, there are a few of you LOL made especially testing for some with my lack of knowledge of RRF, Gcode and 3d printing in general. I've learned a lot in a short space of time and glad I didn't quit on the mini, I'm especially impressed with the level of support from the Duet team to find the cause and then produce a number fixed fw / workarounds until resolved.
Looking forward to 3.3b3 in few days 🙂

      Hi,

What exactly do you mean by "tuning"?

      Frederick

Getting them setup to run nicely, the guides are vague, to me anyway and I dont fully understand them. I’ve had an immense amount of help but still dont really understand what I’m doing. I’m sure it’s really simple when you understand it but frankly its overwhelming the first time you come into contact with RRF and all of the parameters to set, test, tune and refine, stealthchop, spreadcycle, cool step, currents and how they interact with each other. Trinamic claim our steppers should run quietly yet I can’t get mine to below 50db and I don’t understand why, does that make sense?

@droftarts - have any other insights to this issue ... any known successful configurations ?

Missing steps in SpreadCycle on very easy print geometry and conservative travel speed moves/settings.

Eliminated MANY potential aspects - but its starting to seem that these 2209's just dont like to play nice with LDO .9* motors

To be fair im at the point where im "hacked off" with the lack of input or support, 6 fairly knowledgable people located around the world all in different timezones have put an insane amount of time and assistance into trying to get this issue resolved to no avail... A simple procedure to follow to setup motors would pretty much alleviate this?

seems as if the options are limited to stealth ON for homing only, then spreadcycle for all other.

Getting the code right for this appears to be the challenge now.

Wish I had the answer for ya buddy ... ANybody ? Bueller ?

Seems like the worlds best kept secret...

@fulg Correct I was running the LDO 0.9's when I set up the duet for the 1st time, I changed them to the 0.9's from the 1.8's that shipped with the machine with the promise of higher resolution, ive switched back to the original 1.8's to test if its unique to the motors as other have success with the 1.8's. Mine issue is happening on both 0.9 and 1.8.

@droftarts those videos I just posted were at the default Jerk settings, I darent go any higher in fear of breaking printed parts again.

@droftarts can you get me a 6hc, duet 2 sent out or something I can use in the meantime. It’s turned the printer into a paper weight...

    • RE: Missing Steps - Cant Print SpreadCycle StealthChop tuning help

For the time being I’ve pulled the LDO .9’s and replaced with LDO 1.8’s. The thumping / missed steps was across all travel and print moves, in stealthchop switching and forced spreadcycle, fast or slow .45mm/s to 180mm/s. I believe Ian is on the case, someone spoke to LDO and Caribou have an evaluation board that will make some tests on .9’s.
It would be nice considering the staggering amount of time people have graciously put into this if the right people could keep the thread updated please.

      Thanks J
