@Phaedrux dont know what m552 s-1 does but ive dont plenty of toggling on and off with s0 and s1 and m587 ive done and redone after updating it with m997 s1
It's rare for the heater mosfets to fail. On Duet 2s the driver chips can fail if there is a transient on the +5V rail. If it's the mosfet that has failed, it's possible to replace it using a hot plate and hot air desoldering tool.
To test whether it is the mosfet or the driver, the general approach is to identify the mosfet gate series resistor (which is close to the mosfet gate terminal) and measure the voltage between each end of it and ground. If both ends are at +5V then the driver is commanding the mosfet on, so either the driver IC or the MCU has failed (assuming it does this with no SD card, which you've already got him to check). If the driver end of the resistor is close to 0V then the driver is commanding the mosfet off, so it's the mosfet that has failed.
@fcwilt Got it! changed Y-1👎0 to Y 1:1:0 and that did it. so im pretty sure what it corresponds to are the 3 motion motors, normally called x y and z and the 1, -1 and 0 are which direction the stepper motor should turn, 1 for forwards ,-1 for backwards and 0 for none. Thanks for the help
@ashillis mines working fine now wired through my connector all mounted up properly. i wasnt welding anything, all crimped connections. no interference. just shoddy connections preciously
When I first tried it, I used a second SD card in the reader of the display => WRONG
Then I made a 'menu' subdirectory in the /sys folder of the main SD-reader => WRONG
Then I made a 'menu' folder in the root directory of the main SD-reader => BINGO
