@philn said in Expanding Duet 2 Wifi with a 6th stepper driver for Triple-Z:

Can I use the 5 on-board drivers for Z-Z-Z+X+Y and use the additional 6th driver for the extruder?

      Yes that makes sense.

@philn said in Expanding Duet 2 Wifi with a 6th stepper driver for Triple-Z:

Can I use a TMC2209 as the extruder driver or would you recommend another type, say 2100 or even DRV8825? (I got TMC2209 and a DRV at hand, so would make it simpler)

You can use whichever external driver you wish provided it will interface with your adapter board and will accept a step/dir/enable signal.

      This guide may help

@philn Late to the party as usual!
I have a Railcore ZLT which is CoreXY, a Voron V0.1 - CoreXY and when the Railcore team release the BOM for the Mini, another CoreXY.

As @Phaedrux mentioned iirc, static XY and a separate moving Z.
Personally gone off of the Voron2.4 and have stripped it down to either rebuild as something else or sell. Personally do not like XY&Z on 4 rubberbands!

      Actually its force/distance.

If it was force*distance then increasing the diameter of the pulley would increase torque 😉

, if the torque is fixed amount, and if one increases the pulley diameter, then the force must reduce by the same proportion.

We are saying the same thing...

I'm just talking about converting from the available torque of the motor to the force applied to the belt.

So I should have said: torque/distance = force on the belt.

I didn't read your post closely enough. Apologies for any offence given.

It may be that the weight of the print head that the motor is lifting will be sufficient to preload the gears enough to remove the backlash.
