    • RE: Help setting up new Duet 2 Wifi

@Phaedrux The replacement board has arrived and it immediately worked. We could install it in the printer an started configuring today. We have everything working, but one major issue:

Any motor connected to E0 only wiggles/vibrates but doesn't turn. There are no error messages in the console. We tested with several stepper motors. All motors work as expected on any port but E0.

As the built has independent dual z-motors, we can't just use E1 instead of E0.

      How can we troubleshoot this?

This is the configuration for the drives:

      ; Drive Mappings (S0 = backwards, S1 = forwards)
      M569 P0 S0 ; Drive 0 goes forwards: X Axis
      M569 P1 S1 ; Drive 1 goes forwards: Y Axis
      M569 P2 S0 ; Drive 2 goes forwards: Z Axis Left
      M569 P3 S0 ; Drive 3 goes backward: E Axis
      M569 P4 S0 ; Drive 4 goes forwards: Z Axis Right (using E1)

      ; Motor Configuration
      M350 X16 Y16 Z16 E16 I1 ; Set X, Y, and Z Microstepping with interpolation

      M566 X840.00 Y840.00 Z48.00 E120.00 P1 ; Set maximum instantaneous speed changes (mm/min)

      M906 X620.00 Y620.00 Z560.00 E1000.00 I10. ; Set motor currents (mA) and motor idle factor in percent
      M84 S30

      === EDIT ===

This definitely comes from the config: When I boot a generic config, drive E0 works normal. Maybe you can see something in the config above, already? If not, I'll have a try again in a few days.

@droftarts my last reply was from memory, here's a screenshot of the port showing when the erase jumper was set:

      Screenshot 2022-12-01 at 09.17.08.png

Once flashed, no port is showing anymore.

@Phaedrux got it directly from Duet, received it 2-3 weeks ago.

@droftarts Yes, I did. When flashed and rebooted there is no port at all. Neither on macOS nor Windows, with or without SD card. When I set the erase jumper I get a port. On macOS its tty.usbmodemXXXXX, on Windows its called bossaport(Com3). When I flash and reboot, there's again no port. The diag led has been always on so far.

@Phaedrux thank you for talking to DC42 about this!

      One more observation:
When flashed and power cycled, no serial port is shown.
When I short the erase jumper pins with the SD card in, no port is shown.
Only when I short the pins with the SD card OUT, the BOSSA port is connected.

For completeness: I verified the SD card once again, formatted FAT32 in Windows. All default config from the RepRap Configurator extracted to the card. Additional folders gcodes and macros.

Should the board respond in YAT even when no SD card is present? Or must the full system be loaded from SD?

      @Phaedrux I just installed a VM with Windows 10.
      Bossa can flash successfully.
YAT can connect but gets no answer after flashing but before power cycle.
After a power cycle, no port is shown.

Do I flash the correct binary?

@Phaedrux basically, yes. Just that the DIAG led is constantly on and that I only get the tty.usbmodem port on macOS after erasing the flash. Once flashed, I get no port shown.

The board is a refurbished unit that I got directly from Duet, INV-1594. It arrived about two weeks ago.

@Phaedrux I have no Windows machine myself, but I tested with one of a friend. In device manager, the board is shown as «serial device COMx». Flashing via bossac works, same result as on macOS. It does not show up as «Duet 2 Wifi …».

I did not test YAT but I can connect via Serial Tools on macOS. I get no terminal output though.

    • Help setting up new Duet 2 Wifi

We tried setting up a new Duet 2 Wifi board yesterday, but we couldn't get it boot up properly.

After putting the board into a case and connecting via USB to a Mac Mini we only got a usbmodem port to show up and the diag LED would be constantly lit up.

      IMG_3761.jpeg

The troubleshooting section in the doc suggested either a ground loop, a faulty SD card or a corrupted bootloader.

The board shows no visual signs of any shorts and there are no accessories connected. We reformatted the SD via the SD-formatter tool (FAT32) and tried a different card (SanDisk Extreme 64GB, generic config from the RepRep config tool).

We also used different cables and switched ports. We can successfully flash other parts, like a Panel Due with the same combination.

Then we tried «Fallback Procedure #2»: shorted the erase pins via jumper for a few seconds, unpower, remove jumper, power on. We've been able to flash Duet2CombinedFirmware.bin (3.4.4) via bossac (successfully I guess):

      Screenshot 2022-11-26 at 14.54.10.png

After rebooting, no port shows up anymore. Only when we erase the flash again, the usbmodem-port comes back.

There's also a hint that a defect/shorted SD-card reader or wifi-module could lead to a boot loop, but both parts stay cool and we can't see anything wrong with the soldering.

So, are we doing it right? Is there something we didn't see in the documentation?
      Thanks for your help.

    • RE: Brand new Duet Wifi not working

Thanks for the link and your advice.

I screwed duet onto the base of a printed case made from PETG. I did that on my computer desk, no clutter, no parts – clean surface in a buero, not a shop. Chances are very low that something conductive made its way onto the board.

I gave it a blow front and back with an camera blower. I removed it from the case, inspected front and back visually. And I also swapped the fuses for new ones. (The ones it came with look fine, but I just wanted to be sure. I don't have a multimeter at the office.)

The result stays the same. When I plug the Mini-USB in, the LED next to the connector glims so feint that it is barely visible in daylight. The Mac reports that too much power is drawn and the port isn't mounted.

I you could advise me on the points and expected readings, I should be able to measure the board. But I don't have the expertise to do that with the info I find around this board.

So, if there are no good ideas otherwise, I'll try the warranty.

      Thank you for your reply!

It rests on 4 posts of a case printed from PETG. Shouldn't be conductive.
The cables work, the ports of the computers work. I guess you are right.

I bought directly from duet3d.com … whom should I talk to?

    • Brand new Duet Wifi not working

      Good evening

After I already printed a case, I finally found the time today to start the conversion of my Ender 3. At least I thought so.

Unfortunately I don't manage to access the board via USB.

When I connect the cable, the red LED next to it glows very weakly. A Mac Pro as well as a Macbook report that the device needs too much power, but it also doesn't work on a USB hub with an external power supply.

There are still no other cables/plugs connected, it can't be a short circuit. The fuses look good.

      What can I do?

      Best,
      Sebastian
