    • How can I make my motors more quiet

-Sorry if this gets double posted, my first try didn't seem to work..

      As the title says..

Please see my config file, I have tried a few things that I've red here but none seems to make it more quiet, sorry but can't recall exactly what I did try.

I rebuilt a Monoprice mini with a V6 hotend and fitted an 8*8 leadscrew and runs it with a Mini 5+.
X and Y motors are the original ones and those are really quiet, for the extruder I bought this one: https://www.bondtech.se/product/nema17-pancake-stepper-22mm/
      And for my Z: https://www.bondtech.se/product/nema17-pancake-stepper-25mm/

They seem to be very much alike to my ignorant eye and they both make a sound that reminds of the belt-fan in your car when it starts to slip but with a pulsating pitch.

I did try with a motor from the extruder from my Prusa (on my Z axis) and that made it even worse witch I didn't expect since it is quiet like a mouse in my Prusa printer.

Another peculiar thing I noticed when I tried different e-steps for my extruder was that is was totally silent when I used a value of 395, iirc, and with the value of 413, that I need to have, it makes a relatively loud noise.
      How can that be?

As you surely can tell I don't have much experience with this so any help and/or suggestions are much appreciated.

      /Micke

That makes a lot of sense, thank you.
I’m adapting to the wonderful world of RRF and g-codes from more than five years with Marlin 🙂

      Sorry for hijacking the thread
What are the pro and cons of using firmware retractions?

To me it seems a lot easier to use the settings in the slicer so you can have different settings for different materials e.g PLA and TPU, rather than changing your config.g. But maybe I’m missing something?

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like a fun project.
I will have to test to raise the microstepping and see what happens. The printer I’m playing with is a really cheap one that has a ordinary M5 as Z lead with a (I think) pitch of 0.75mm so it’s less then ideal 🙂

Just to follow up on this, swapping in a 0.9 degree motor was a no brainer and helped things.

Do you have any before and after pictures? That would be very interesting to see.

I am currently thinking of changing to 32x or 64x microstepping as well.

@rkaronde Maybe another silly question but have you tried cleaning your bed? I regularly clean my bed with isopropyl alcohol but once in a while I have to clean it with hot water and washing-up liquid and that can be the difference between night and day sometimes. Even though I never ever touch my bed and it looks squeaky clean there can be some residue on it.

I’ll totally agree that it would be an challenge, and as you said; how would you wind them all up and have them synchronized..
You just gave me something to think about for a long time 🙂

As for the resin printer, thats on the list but won’t get realized for some time I’m afraid. I just ordered an V-core 3 that I’m looking really forward to build.

I have my own ideas on what to make and print and put on top of them, but your link gave me a name for what I'm looking for 'Windup walkers' or 'Walker feet'. A quick search on amazon didn't give much but now I have a clue to what to look for.

      Thanks,
and if anyone know where to get a hold of these feet please let me know 🙂

If this is to off topic or off category please move it to where it belongs.

I was looking on an old documentary about CERN and they had this 3D printed thingies that they had put on these feet that are winded so they walk around. This caught my attention and childish imagination a few years back when I first saw the documentary and now finally I stumbled upon it again and took a screenshot.

Can anyone tell anything about them; what are they called, where can you get them, what to search for..

      Thanks

How can I keep the fan on after the print is done and shut it off either after a period of time or when extruder gets down to a certain temp?

With regards to my previous post, about me having a config.zip file uploaded to the duet, how shall I do with that file? Or maybe that file contains the config.g file.

@cosmowave You are talking to a toddler, how do I do to create it with the configurator and where can I find the configurator?

Yesterday I ran some configurator on the web, to configure my duet and downloaded a config.zip afterwards. I just now uploaded that zip file to the duet and downloaded it in DWC and I edited in this:

      ; Network
      M552 S1 P192.168.1.35 ; enable network
      M586 P0 S1 ; enable HTTP
      M586 P1 S0 ; disable FTP
      M586 P2 S0 ; disable Telnet

And then saved it, does this mean that the ethernet is activated with my specified IP Address permanently?

But I still miss the config.g file

    • Can't find config.g file. First time setup Duet3 Mini 5 Plus

I'm trying to setup my Duet 3 Mini 5+ (ethernet) for the first time.

Looking at the setup guide+Getting+Connected+to+your+Duet/7) at step 12 you are supposed to have access to the config.g file, I have not. See my screenshot.
I want to set my IP so the ethernet connection doesn't get lost when I reboot/restart.

I am using a Mac and Safari, I have tried Firefox as well. As a terminal program I'm using SerialTools.

I updated to latest RRF by double press the reset button and transfer the latest file to the duet (sorry, can't remember exactly what it was called, this is all very new to me) and the Duet rebooted after installing upgrade file.
Afterwards I ran M115 in SerialTools and got the respons that I'm running FFR 3.3 and it was shipped with something like 3.1 beta*** So I guess the update worked(?)

      I am lost..
