I do have an older FT5. I use only the 4 leveling screws on the edges.
I still have the 4mm original ALU-bed and it's fine to me.
I suppose the 713 machined bed is at least 6 or 8mm thick and should have no issue at all.
Hope this helps.

RE: Firmware 2.0RC4 released
I do have the same issue.
After uploading a file, I cannot find it in the list. On the panel due I however, I can select and print the file succesfully.Firmware Name: RepRapFirmware for Duet 2 WiFi/Ethernet
Firmware Electronics: Duet WiFi 1.02 or later
Firmware Version: 2.0(RTOS)RC4 (2018-05-17b2)
WiFi Server Version: 1.21
Web Interface Version: 1.21 -
RE: Where is the quick start guide for this board???
"The documentation dont have a youtube tutorial, this sucks"
Oh yes : The least that could be expected was an unboxing video. Struggling getting my newly purchased DUEX5 out of the package

RE: Bed leveling options
Since I switch bed surfaces all the time (most of them are 4mm float glass, but also PC and PEI) AND I use 3Dlack, I have a BLTouch installed since I wanted to physically probe the bed. I tried the IR probe, but with the different kind of surfaces I use, it wasn't working well in all cases. On clear glass with the ALU bed paitned black, the IR probe was very accurate.
I can't complain about accuracy for the BLTouch.
But I don't print at 0,05mm, seldom at 0.1 and most of the time it's in the range 0,2 to 0,5mm … -
RE: Stepperdrivers diode protection ?
All stepper driver chips have clamping diodes built in.
Thank you David.
I knew it was still a possible issue with the TMC2100 … I had some Schottky diodes (B2100) clamped to V+ and GND to protect them and didn't see this in the drawings for these ones... -
Stepperdrivers diode protection ?
I know the stepperdrivers are quite solid, but since they are not easily replaceable in case of damage, wouldn't it be a good idea to protect them with clamping diodes to V+ and GND ?
To protect the drivers from overvoltages when disconnecting steppers when they get the full current or moving around with the carriage while not powered … -
RE: Safety processor
Don't hesitate. I use a relay with real contacts…
After the main power switch there is a small PSU that feeds the safety processor. The safety processor is in control of the mains power for the rest of the printer. -
Safety processor
It's not directly Duet related, but can add some more safety to a hot printer with sometimes bad and smoking connectors or cheap chinese powersupplies with burning inrush NTC's …
I had this thing already in mind for some time now and wanted an independent security device that could cut all high power stuff in the printer upon detection of a potential danger.
The danger my wife has in mind is fire ....
So this one detects smoke, CO2 and some other gases and can detect high temperatures with 2 independent detector units.
I want every user to be aware of that and consider this as my contribution to the community.
Think about it and feel free to use or modify it (as long as you share it too).See thingiverse : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2548411

RE: Problem with Pt100
I use 2 twisted pairs of a 8-pairs shielded cable in a 4-wire connection. No issues whatsoever. Cable is around 100cm long.

RE: Logging
I need a solution that works for everyone
Only one solution then : a RTC.
For NTP the printer has to reach out to the internet. I guess not everyone allows that.
Date/time setting could also be implemented as a function on the PanelDue for those not using DWCEdit : Adding a small RTC board stacked on the PT100/Thermocouple board connector? Thank you Tony for bringing this into (at least) my focus!
Very interesting thread!
I learned to not make things more complex then they need to be! -
RE: Logging
Logs :
High level log : keeps track of startup, printing a object …
kind of low level log for root-cause analysis. I would not opt for having different levels of logging in that one. All or nothing.IMHO : size should be limited. One could switch between 2 files with a fixed max size and have an indicator to the active one.
Time :
Why not having the printer time automagically set from the DWC ? PC-clock -> printer clock ...Starting and configuring with G-code (what else?) is a good idea. Size, max number of files...
Fixed location on SD card \logs\ ore something likelyStart/stop of the detailed logging from the DWC

RE: External Wifi Antennae
My Duetwifi is installed in an all aluminum electronics enclosure with a polycarbonate hatch in the back.
As you can imagine I only have a good signal when the printer is oriented so that the back is directed to the antenna of the router.
To cover this issue, I installed a separate AP behind the printer. It is a heavy one, so I don't move it easily. Just rolling it around on a couple of sqm for easy access when tinkering… -
RE: 24V PSU with 12V components
I fully support the previous recommendations and I also strongly recommend to replace the heater cartridge and not to play with 12V heaters on 24V. It's for your own safety (and possible in a worst case also that of your family) It is just not worth it.
You get one here (https://e3d-online.com/heater-cartidge-40w) at a fair price . -
RE: Samsung S4 as a Webcam
Seems that I'm in the same club. When I extract the number from Dougal1957, the difference is very small
But from the webcam point of view, seen through an 'old' device, I like thinking about reusing old abandoned devices.
Quality is very good. It's only a bit unusual one has to boot a webcam … -
RE: Samsung S4 as a Webcam
a cracked screen
You'll just need the screen to set up the App.
I did some testing yesterday. Phone works just fine as a webcam.
Just pay attention for overtemperature.
Apparently this creates a high load on the processor. I removed the backpanel, selected the option in the APP to continue in the background and switched off the screen.
It is a big difference!App has an option to switch on the flash light from within the web app. One could even check the printing process in the dark!
Edit : had the S4 on now for a while as I intend to use it. Temp remains around 35°C. Seems ok without back and screen switched off.

Samsung S4 as a Webcam
I had an old one lying around with phone issues, but still fine on wifi.
I tested webcam app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en and assigned a fixed ip address to the S4.
The app will tell you how to connect (what to enter in the Duet Web app)For those who don't know the howto in Android :
- Connect to the wifi network you want to connect to
- go into wifi settings and do a long press on the wifi the phone is connected with
- choose second option : "modify network"
- select show advanced options
- change IP-settings from 'DHCP' to 'Static'
- enter IP address and gateway;
This is a first setup for a mount on a 2020-beam : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2533621
