Slicer's What are you guys using ?
-
Of the free Slicers what is the most common used. And are there some examples of setups. I know it ranges widely with printers and filaments, but are there things to watch for ?? With Klipper I used Prusaslicer. Cura when I first got a printer as that is what came with it..
-
Back and forth between Prusa and Cura, more and more Prusa. High hopes for Fusion360 when they support real curves.
-
I need to redownload Prusa. Slic3r and Cura right now for me.
-
skeinforge for many years then cura for few years then slic3r and then moved to simplify3d and used simplify3d mostly for many years till ~ year ago, last year I finally got fed up with s3d bugs and moved almost exclusively to idea maker. It has a similar philosophy as simplify3d only it is actively developed and it's free (not open source).
for viewing g-code I use almost exclusively craftware as there's no better g-code preview app out there
Every 6-9 months I take a weekend and run trough the "big list" (it's changing all the time but from the top of my head: ideaMaker,slic3r, prusa slicer, cura, craftWare, kiss, tinkerine, repetier, selfcad, 3dprinteros, icesl, patio, kirimoto, slicecrafter, mattercontrol, zsuite...) just to see if anyone came with something worth noting. I noticed last time I did the run-trough that fusion360 slicer is gone now from my f360 setup, probbly they want $$$ for it, they can dream, last $$$ for slicer I paid to simplify3d and I won't make the same mistake twice..

@arhi I don't know idea maker. Going to download now. Does it integrate with Duet webcontrol ?
-
@arhi Correct me if I'm wrong. I need to build all the settings like Line Height and width ect ?

Nope. ideaMaker, Simplify3D nor most of the other slicers do not integrate with DWC nor with octoPrint :(. You can use "postprocessing script" to use CURL to upload files to your printer after you save them but that's all. Apart from Cura and PrusaSlicer I don't think any of the others integrate properly with DWC.

ideaMaker is like simplify3D "complex" slicer with a ton of advanced settings and advanced features, but there are default settings you can start off. check out some YT tutorials it's super powerful.
-
@arhi I will check it out. Thank you. Want to share some Profiles ? Pretty new to all of this
-
KISSlicer and sometimes the Prusa version of Slic3r.
-
@arhi What does it mean for a slicer to integrate with DWC, and what would be the advantage?

e.g. from cura you can upload file to octoPrint and monitor print status directly from cura (dunno about DWC/RRF I never tried that from cura), from PrusaSlicer you can "send generated g-code to RRF or octoPrint and start (or not) a print" ... so basically "basic integration" would be a button to not only "export g-code to disk" but to send it to RRF over network directly from the slicer, the "full integration" would be ability to monitor print and change stuff (cancel print, pause/resume print, change speed modifier, extrusion modifier, temperature, send g-code..) during print.
that's how I see it anyhow.
s3d and ideamaker allow you to use "postprocessing script" where you can use curl to send print to RRF/octoPrint (I do it like that)... dunno about other slicers never needed any integration as I never used them long/often enough to warrant it.
One can say "but it's just 2 click to save to disk and upload to dwc" but actually - it is not. it is 2 clicks when you have one printer, when you have multiple printers it is much more complicated and this way you have printer address directly in the profile for that printer so when you slice to that printer you send the code to exactly that printer... way easier and less potential for mistake

I can but I doubt you will like them very much ... I always suggest ppl make profiles from scratch, that is the only way to learn.
here is my "draft" profile (0.5mm layer, 0.6mm nozzle, PETG)
-
@mrehorstdmd It means it can send the gcode right to the printer. I mean easy enough with webcontrol
-
My favourites lately are IceSL, PrusaSlicer and SuperSlicer (prusa fork).
Fusion 360 slicer is still free, and worth every penny! free as in included with the license. I’m excited about arc support, but hopefully they also allow us to increase the output resolution for non-circular splines, or slice Bézier curves directly. AFAIK, marlin already supports G5 bezier control points.

you sure? it's gone from my f360 since few days ago
I’m excited about arc support
last week when I tested it the support for arc (G2) was not there yet. The only slicer that directly support ARC from the ones I tested is KISS (and that postprocessor in python made for octoprint)
-
Where are you looking in Fusion for the FFF slicing? It's in the manufacture workspace, under the "additive" tab.
G2/3 arc support is not yet in the FFF slicing of Fusion, but they said it would be coming soon in a blog entry.

manufacture workspace
the whole "manufacture workspace" is gone
was there just 2 days ago
I think I seen somewhere some notification that some trial was over but.. anyhow I was not too impressed with it so far IM is no1 for me.. but will be checking the f360 if I manage to get it back

Anybody knows what happened to the E3D slicer?

Nearly 30 releases later…
…we’ve targeted the bugs and issues you raised and the user experience has come a very long way from where it was. It's not bad, even know how to send gcode directly to duet board
