Great! It's good to know the Duet 2 will handle it on the firmware side. I'd like to keep everything cooled passively since it'll be in a dusty environment, so external driver seems like the way to go. I know TB6600 and DM542's handle that just fine.

It looks like every "big" stepper driver wants 5v, and most of what I can find about 3.3v is that they sometimes work, but it's not necessarily reliable. The expansion breakout board seems to take care of 5v signaling by connecting DIR +, ENA +, and STEP + all together to +5v, with the negative pins on their respective pins. Assuming I'm understanding that correctly, I don't mind having to buy it to make everything work easily.

@markz said in Prusaslicer M107 start code disabling thermostatic extruder fan?:

@dc42 Really - I did read it and did set the fans up that way. The issue was not understanding which fan to use in the M563 command. I thought it would naturally be asking for the extruder fan there and "mapping as fan 0" in the doc didn't mean anything to me.

If you have only one print cooling fan and it is Fan 0 as recommended, then you don't need to use the F parameter in the M563 command. That parameter is only needed if different tools use different print cooling fans.

same here. did the OP get this to work? the 2pin fan with pwm doesn't seem to agree with the signal the ebay controller is looking for.

@matt3o said in Slice engineering/Mosquito hotend thermistor settings:

I have a slice thermistor too and my educated guess is that it's not reliable at (very) low temps.

That's correct, high temperature thermistors have such a high resistance (typically 500Kohms at 25C) that with the usual thermistor reading circuits, the accuracy and resolution at low temperatures are very poor. You may even get "thermistor disconnected" errors when you start the printer on a cold day. The accuracy gets better at higher temperatures.

Some builds of RepRapFirmware support the H parameter for M305 or M308 commands. This can be used to adjust the reading at low temperatures.

I did all my 13 steppers (so 52 wires) by stripping back twice as much insulation as needed then doubling it back on itself. Then I shortened the wings that wrap around the insulation by about 50% so they were only half as long. That technique worked fine for me.

@Phaedrux said in Sanity check: Duet 3 and BLTouch ground pinout?:

In all my searching I still haven't been able to find why it has two ground wires to begin with.

maybe because on most 8-bit boards the wiring would be split and by having one ground on each plug you ensure no stray potential in the event of a partial disconnect?
