    • RE: Crimping tool?

      @fcwilt said in Crimping tool?:

To each their own but paying more for an inferior tool seems curious to me.

The advantage of Engineer's type of crimpers is that they are simple and more versatile. No need to change jaws and you can adapt independently to core an insulation crimping. A perfect tool for one-offs hobby and lab environment.

You will seldom find them in more professional and production environments when consistent quality is important. In those places, people typically use very expensive tools that are certified for the terminals being used.

As for the price, yes Engineer's crimpers are over priced and inferior IMO to this one https://iwiss.com/product/micro-open-barrel-crimping-tools-work-on-awg28-20-awg24-12-jam-molex-tyco-jst-terminals-and-connectors/

    • RE: Can't print with daemon.g with 1sec loop

@Phaedrux, to upgrade to 3.5.0 RC1 (this is the latest I find on github), do I just need to upload Duet3Firmware_Mini5plus.uf2 via the web interface?

it's the half that owns most of the guns.

... which is not the half that commits riots, looting, political violence, kills cops, burn our cities, and suppresses our speech. 😉

Back to 3D printers, how does the cost of electricity and the cost of filament compare for a typical print? Does any of them dominates the cost?

    • RE: New product: Electronic Z motor brake

@oozebot, a card like this could also have a dry contact output to automatically activate a mechanical brake.

    • RE: An idea for a funding model for Duet firmware - discuss.

@arnold_r_clark said in An idea for a funding model for Duet firmware - discuss.:

to combat the cloner's maybe it is time for Duet3D to follow E3D's lead who have been forced into protecting their business's financial future by putting protection systems in place to prevent cloner's from stealing their work,

I don't think that China has much interest in Duet3d's designs at this point. They are charting their own course now with products such as SKR, Spyder, and Octopus which complement independent firmware packages from Klipper and others. Same goes with other 3D printer components. They follow the journey that Japan and South Korea had in the past, from crappy cheap clones to quality self designed products and market dominance.

    • RE: Acelerometers and input shaping

@oliof said in Acelerometers and input shaping:

@zapta printing a reference model certainly can work, but takes more time

If I count the time it took me to get the parts, understanding the connection diagram and configuration and debugging noise issues, it took me X20 more time than running the input sharping tower, and when done, I run a few input shaping towers anyway to confirm the results and the overall impact (on x, y, interaction with PA, and so on).

What we need is a reasonably priced and off the shelf small accelerometer board/module with a long thin and flexible cable that easily plug into duets and works reliably. Maybe a custom board with an MCU, accelerometer, and CAN connector (@T3P3Tony, this is your department ;-))

Edit: having to plug a single connector to the Mini5+ would also be a nice feature.

    • RE: How to identify a genuine original board

With Open Source Hardware, all boards are genuine. 😉

Can you get a picture of the other side? If it happened to have the "based on..." text, then it's not a Duet3D's board.

      https://github.com/T3P3/Duet/blob/master/LICENSE

Also, on the left there is a strip of connector pins. AFAIK Duet ships pre cut pins.
