It has been a while, but I wanted to share that the 1k resistor was the trick that kept it working. We will also add a new power supply to the whishlist for the near future.

You could reverse the sense so that 0 means pen up and 1 means down, by inverting the control pin name in the M452 command.

@bg_86 it may be worth using an Application Class 1 or 2 SD card, because they perform much better at random file reads/writes than tradition SD cards designed for use in digital cameras. The S parameter is intended to be used on G1 commands that also command movement, so you won't get any PWM output unless you command movement in that G1 command; then the laser will be on during that movement.

@CNCModeller Menu files can be added only via copy&paste but icons etc. are automatically converted from standard image format (JPG, PNG etc). If you save the configtool template, the menu files should be properly restored the next time you edit it.

@CNCModeller Thank you so much for your reply and letting me know what you did. We actually decided to hook up the magnetic switch to the PWM output so the laser will have a duty cycle of 0 when the lid is open. I do think in the future we will also have a manual hardware switch.

@Thor to elaborate on the previous response, see the S parameter in the M452 command.

Sticky mode is hazardous because if you command a G1 move manually the laser may fire unexpectedly; so RRF defaults it to off. It's safer to have the program that generates the GCode assume that the laser power setting is not sticky, if it supports that.

It's just because I don't have a lot of space in my workshop and my cooler is quite large. I've been trying to optimise the kit in there (eBay has been my friend) so integrating a chiller into the K40 chassis would make a noticeable difference.

@olliss the output connectors switch the ground side, not the power supply side so that wont work. you can put a external switch (like a relay, SSR etc) in between to turn off the power.
