closed loop nema 17/23 driver/controller for Duet 3 6hc board
-
@dc42 Hello again, I am following up on this topic, have there been any developments?
very much looking forward to purchasing this new controller that has been in development over the last few months. -
@supertb1 we are currently designing the second prototype of that board using a more powerful processor, because the original processor had an undocumented quirk that proved problematic.
-
@dc42 That's great news.
I was just wondering what the score was with these myself as I noticed a reference to them in the documentation when I was setting up my Duet 3 mini this afternoon. At least I know it's still on the horizon.
It'd be great to keep my build totally within the Duet3D ecosystem, especially as I'm starting to get interested 3rd parties so may eventually be making more printers than I expected. Definitely want closed loop on one axis l, if not 2.
Please add me to the backorder when you are ready. Is there any forecast on unit cost?
I also remember a mention of a driverless control card, is there any follow up on that too?
Many thanks for all your efforts!

@dc42 Hello, following up on progress of the closed loop nema 17/23 controller for Duet 3... any good news?... can I start sending Duet3D my money yet?

We are awaiting manufacture of the new version with upgraded processor, and we have an intern scheduled to work on completing the firmware under my supervision starting later this month.

@dc42 Hello DC42, the suspense is breathtaking on the completion of the closed loop duet stepper controller... any good news?

Yes. The new hardware prototypes are being manufactured and should be available soon. Meanwhile the closed loop firmware is being developed on the old prototypes.
-
@dc42 I would be willing to pay $200 US for the controller, has there been a price point discussed on this yet?... I would love to be a (beta tester/youtube unboxer) tester of this controller. Also what are you using for steppers, or have you come up with a duet closed loop nema 17/23 motor for this new board?
-
@supertb1 we are testing with Nema 17 and Nema 34 steppers with built-in encoders from StepperOnline. Price will be higher than a tool board but I expect it to be lower than a 3HC. We will also offer an optional magnetic encoder + magnet to go on the back of a standard stepper motor.
-
@dc42 set it to preorder somethere %-) willing to put some buks there

This is amazing! I was already looking into ways to add encoders to my Bondtech LGX extruders. Thank you for your hard work!
-
@chernogorsky I agree, I would be willing to put some money on this for pre-order.

-
@dc42 all good progress. Looking forward to getting my hands on one!
-
@dc42 Awesome news, thank you and congrats to Louis as well!

@dc42 Hey David,
What kind of current rating are you thinking for these boards?

TristanUp to 6.3A peak (4.5A RMS) @ up to 50V.
We have the new hardware prototypes running now.

@dc42
I am adding cnc capabilities to a manual Lathe at work and was intending to use 2, 4'ish amp Closed loop Nema 23's from Stepperonline and a Duet 2 with expansion board for control. After reading this I would much rather use a MB6HC and the new expansion board. If I could get my hands on one of your new prototypes that would be great. Please let me know if you are interested in dedicating a board for cnc testing. I can be ready in as little as 3 weeks -
@3dpmicro depending on what else you want to drive, it is may be that a Duet 3 Mini + the closed loop boards would be sufficient for your system.
-
@dc42
Not much else. Spindle control at some point. I can see how the MB6HC would be a bit overkill for the application.
