    • RE: PA: Prusament PETG and Prusa Bear bondtech extruder

I have finally dialed in the value. Apparently 0.11 is too much.

      I printed the "toleromancer" a 0.1mm offset test print with 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm interlocking features:

      0fda8999-2b59-4541-a4ab-dec4036cb1ed-image.png

This allowed me to fine tune the values with "real world" application: fitment.

      0.000 didn't fit, as expected.
0.100 fit but snugly, so not optimal
0.110 fit, but with snugness on the smallest 1mm part, kind of counterintuitive

0.105 fit perfectly with 0.1mm tolerance throughout including the 1mm part.

Hereby I present you the Toleromancer:

    • Prusa upgraded to duet, weird extrusion

      Greetings again!

I have set up my Prusa MK2.5S/Bear Extruder/Full Bear/Duet 2 WiFi upgrade combo and so far it seems to print at least. 🙂

I am facing weird looking extrusion artifacts I have never seen before though..

On one axis, I am getting intense vibrations, like, I can feel them with my nail:

      2019-12-09 20.05.15.jpg

The other axis side gets moire effect I have seen on Prusa github issues with MK3 owners..

      2019-12-09 20.05.06.jpg

      My config is as follows:

Right now the cube I have is perfectly 20x20x20mm and 0.45mm walled. So I would just love to get rid of these artifacts..

Toying around I found a easier way to notice what I need to look for.

I just printed 20x20x10(cut in half) 15% grid infilled cubes with no top and seam aligned in the rear, fast prints really.

This allowed me to see how the seam and corners react.

Using MK1 fingers ( 😉 @deckingman ) not MK1 eyeballs I was able to feel the difference and found my perfect value which is 0.11. So if anybody stumbles here with similar setup, feel free to use this as a baseline. 🙂

Marking this as solved. What an adventure!

Thanks for indepth explanation @deckingman 🙂 I suspected as much that I will need to fine tune it a lot and especially for different filaments. Maybe I just grew up spoiled by Linear Advance. 😁

I did another test from another thread, a 2 perimeter 40x40 cube using prusaslicer:

      6a12fc6f-751f-4cf0-a71c-4c5fe0d96ea4-image.png
      50f105bf-3b67-45ea-8b61-8f106f92d41d-image.png

Somehow I feel like something around 0.1 is what I need. 🤔

      @droftarts

I have tried below 0.1 (0.05-0.1) including the PA test prints and regular cube prints. 😕 Right now I have narrowed it down to 0.13-0.135, going to print some cubes and see what I get.

; Custom settings are not defined

The printer is a converted Prusa to full Bear including X axis and extruder.

During the python script and slicer PA calibration tests I tried many values but they give me nothing compared to the official guide.

In the guide, direct extruders go for "0.025 and up".

Here is the first test 0.0-0.5:
      2021-03-12 13.43.11.jpg

      Another test of 0.1-0.3:
      2021-03-12 13.43.23.jpg

      Another test of 0.1-0.2:
      2021-03-12 13.43.34.jpg

      Another test of 0.125-0.175:
      2021-03-12 14.10.36.jpg

Anybody suspects what could be wrong? These values appear way too large for a direct drive extruder. Maybe it's the specifics of PETG? Maybe some of my extruder settings are wrong?

      ABS, a bit better cooling.

So it must be filament then?

PETG can run hotter than 210 with my machine but 230C on mine may well be similar to 210C on yours. That said my part quality isn't A1 either. Assume you're running minimal part cooling on anything other than overhangs? ABS is supposed to flow better than even PLA, but it stinks and irritates my throat so not tried it on my home machines.

I print PETG at 250'C as per manufacturer.

There was no sufficient cooling and I think my bed thermistor setting is crap.

90'C bed results in a 102'C reading on my FLIR.

@Murloc992 what layer thickness are you using?

      0.2, tried 0.10, 0.16 and 0.24.

I just printed a part with ABS..

      and..

there's almost no extruder artifacts..??? (except for printing ABS in open air, getting drooping on overhangs, etc.)

Maybe there are some vibrations, but no apparent diagonals.. Maybe a TINY bit of irregular extrusion..

Is it the filament I use, the PETG I mean..?

      What..

      So lost.. 🤔

@Murloc992 those are some conservative speeds. Seen a track width of 0.45 mentioned. Are you running a normal 0.4mm nozzle? Layer thickness? E3D V6 with 0.4mm nozzle passing PLA at 210-230C can do 100mm/sec at 0.25mm layers and 0.48 track width.

Big thread, excuse me if those questions have been covered.

Usually I print at 60-100mm/s using PETG. My hotend is genuine E3DV6 with 0.45 extrusion width. Right now I am experimenting with 200% speed modifier applied to my profile. The printer is literally flying and I can't see anything wrong with the print right now. 27 minute print seems to be completed in just 16. 😆

@droftarts In fact, the faster I print, the less artifacts I get. 15mm/s perimeter speed was in the previous pictures. 30mm/s perimeters give me less artifacts, 45mm/s feels like they don't really exist, 60mm/s erases them completely.

"Just don't print small things until you have 24V"? 😆
