I have a macro to probe the bed height at each tower base, after disabling any bed transform. My bed can be 0.2mm different at one tower to another but this doesn't stop me achieving 0.008 deviation after calibration so it can cope with slight tilt . I can print a 300mm spiral with perfect height all over the bed. You can use this macro once it's calibrated or after grid levelling, but without the gcode to disable transform, and it should read level.

I was able to fix the distortion! Playing around with M556 command values was able to get me really close. But, just when I had finished getting a value that got me really close I noticed the diagonal rod connections to the effector had popped closer together due to what appeared to be a really strong spring tensioner that was installed on the diagonal rods to make them stiffer.

After I popped them back into place and got rid of the tensioner, everything went perfectly and I ended up not needing the M556 command. Thanks for all the help everyone!

I also resisted using M500 but now just use it to save typeing, especially after delta calibration:

Run M500, go to system files, open config-overide.g, copy the values. open config.g paste the values….

Maybe I should just remove them from config.g completely and only use the config-override.g values now i think about it!

Would be nice if this was a dropdown option in the web interface instead of having to write macros…. there should be a whole section dedicated to tuning and tweaking the printer but can be hidden via a checkbox so kids are not messing with the settings

P.S. I have a sheetmetal frame Davinci Pro so your results could vary depending on frame and motors but this thing seems to respond well to speed.

See the "Manual Calibration" sectoin at the end of https://duet3d.com/wiki/Calibrating_a_delta_printer. You will need to allow movement below where the printer thinks Z=0 initially, which you can do using M208, for example M208 S1 Z=3 will allow movement down to -3mm.

Alternatively, install experimental firmware 1.19beta7 (important: see https://duet3d.com/wiki/DuetWiFiFirmware_1.19beta if your board is a Duet WiFi), because that version has a manual calibration facility built in. To use it, set up your bed.g file as normal and select Z probe type 0 (P0) in your M558 command, Then run G32 and follow the prompts in the console of DWC or PanelDue or your USB host program. It's a bit clunky to use until additional support for it has been added to DWC and PanelDue, which should happen during next week.

I'll look into the Esher 3D mentioned in the bottom section , will it work even if the bed is not yet coplanar ?

For manual calibration tools available in the beta I'll wait for the DWC version then, thanks !

I just checked out the RepRap gcode database and found it… thank you very much for your push in the right direction. I'm printing a Seirpinski's Fractal Pyramid now, and it's looking quite nice so far...

Which firmware version are you using, and what sort of printer do you have? On a CoreXY printer it's normal for both axes to stop when either endstop switch is triggered, but on a Cartesian printer the second axis should keep running until its own homing switch is triggered.

Have you tried measuring the probe trigger height at different places to make sure it is consistent? For example, measure it at the first and third points.

I just installed a Duet WiFI with a BLTouch as Z-probe on my Creality CR-10 and it works fine when moving and extruding now, and it can do Bed Probing and mesh leveling.
But when printing the head travels down in to the bed, so i do an emergency stop and put a paper under the head, and then raises it until it as hard pressed between as when measuring the trigger height. The distance i hade to raise it was the same as the trigger height.
I tried some different trigger heights in the config but it doesn't change anything and it has to be raised the same height anyway.
The trigger height is 0.92mm

My config has these lines
M574 X1 Y1 Z1 S1 ; Define active high microswitches
M558 P5 X0 Y0 Z1 H10 F200 T500 ;

I have ordered one of these printers based on the many, many positive reviews.

After running the bed compensation you still need to load the map before a print or in config.g (G29 S1 / M375) and it is not there by default or just by running mesh compensation.
Don't know why I didn't think of it before; guess it shows I have the rest of the system adjusted reasonably well already that this did not matter too much.
Well, at least it is still a pretty graph 🙂

After a successful G29 probing run, mesh bed compensation will be in use. Resetting the printer, or running G32 (for example, to recalibrate a delta printer) will clear it and you will need to run G29 S1 if you want to use mesh compensation without probing again.

I am about to add a very similar facility to RRF. It will require corresponding updates to DWC and PanelDueFirmware.

Much clearer, but the first sentence still says "bed compensation should be tapered off over the specified height." I think what throws me is the word "height" - I think "range" would convey it better. One last suggestion and then I promise I'll shut-up and stop wasting your time! 🙂

This command allows the bed compensation to linearly taper off over the range between Z=0 and Z=H, so that full bed compensation is applied at Z=0 and no bed compensation is applied when Z is at or above H. If H is zero or negative, tapering is disabled so compensation is performed throughout the entire print.

I used to manage a group of engineers who had to do a fair amount of technical writing. I'm pretty sure they hated me (at least when they were writing datasheets). 🙂

As David said. The other possibility, if you are printing on a glass clipped to the bed, is that the glass shifted when the nozzle hit the blob. I used to get that with my old Mendel.
