If you are looking for high quality quick disconnects I can highly recommend the ones from Koolance. Being full metal, they are quite heavy which might be an important factor for some. They also are not exactly cheap but they do work wonders, have disconnect leakage in the order of a couple little drops and have never failed me.

I have a set of QD3 series in my machine but they do offer others as well. https://koolance.com/help-quick-disconnect-shutoff-couplings

@nuramori Really nice setup! Is the Nimble a sidewinder or a V3 ?

@lael said in Pictures of water-cooling:

@nuramori Where did you source your self-sealing valves you've got installed on your liquid lines? They look like they would be quite helpful if you ever needed to do hotend maintenance etc.

They are Colder medical quick disconnects that are dripless.

@generisi that’s an old build. I ended up designing my own extruder and that’s been combined with a slice liquid mosquito.extruder

@deckingman kind of like an oetiker / stepless ear clamp?

@o_lampe that is very interesting. Not sure I would trust it... but interesting.

@lael nope, no leakage. But in my opinion, it would be better to have a real fitting. I'm gonna change it soonish.

@lael @o_lampe that join has never leaked on my prototpye and the cooling is sufficient for PLA&PETG printing (not tried anything else). It is incredibly simple and elegant.

@t3p3tony @o_lampe - thanks - I've got a test rigged up with FEP hard tubing going into a mosquito liquid, and silicone tube over it just like this. I did add two oetiker clamps on them - I was surprised the FEP handled the pressure, but it seems fine, and no leaks with a 7 day continuous test time so far. If I firmly hold both sides I can still slowly slide the silicone over the inner tube, but I don't think it will come loose on its own.

I water cooled my Wanhao D4s as I found the fans weren't lasting very long with the enclosed setup for printing ABS. The enclosure sits at about 60c with the extended bed at 100c. This is very reliable. The aluminium block is drilled with a copper pipe running through it and I've used heat sink compound to improve conductivity in that assembly.

@lael they’ve been great, and I only need two sets. They are also often used in food service to connect/disconnect fluids like soda syrup, beer taps, etc.

Like you said, it allows me to quick disconnect the hotend for whatever reason without any major disassembly, or if I want to locally drain it without emptying the entire loop.
