@DaveA yeah, I'm merely suggesting you load the file using M23 as a workaround to refreshing the web interface as s3d's http request can't interact with dwc in your browser.
again there is a lengthy thread detailing this if you go searching
not sure about refresh, but you should be able to select the uploaded file. check out the simplify3d script in a topic here somewhere

if the traces on the board are intact, all you need is a soldering iron and some flux to install a new one.
but "broke cleanly free" sounds like it has potential to damage the board - if you upload a picture or two of the area we should be able to evaluate any damage.

Its your only option, and the bossa port is a good sign the hardware is good.

I used the 5 pin version of this recently. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000708135064.html seems to fit both the genuine and cloned BL Touch, but the catches are just ever so slightly smaller so its not as secure as the genuine wire. Seems to be on par with the cloned though.
A dab of hotglue or silastic for peace of mind might be a good idea, or to get genuine JST parts from a repurable source..

No need to cut usb cables; ther is a dedicated 5v_ext header to use when moving the jumper, see link below for details.

AFAIK, if the 5vdc led is off with VIN, but on with USB, then U3 isn't working.
just to elaborate on that, there may be a jumper (INT 5V_EN) and fuse (F3 7.5A) between Vin and U3 (depending on type and revision of the Duet) - but if the fuse is good and the jumper is set then odds are U3 is toast if the 5V LED is off with everything disconnected. (I guess its technically possible U2 and the 3.3V rail is the culprit causing the 5V rail to drop below the forward voltage of the LED)

Here is a good Klipper introduction video by the Voron guy. One of his Klipper based printers is based on a Duet2 and has a functioning Panel Due (Around 15:45 time mark).

edit: duettest.local would imply you've used old config from factory, should be just duet.local and its set by M550
edit2: one option would be to use conditional gcode to run M589 to create an access point and allow user to connect to the duet to input wifi stuff wihtout using the serial console or removing sd card to edit files.
Weather the adhesive failed and the lost cooling caused the heater to overheat or if the heater itself failed won't be easy to determine? BigCliveDotCom or AvE autopsy?
@danny_v1 yeah, PanelDue switch from M408 to M409 at some point, i.e. taking advantage of the object model available in RRF 3.x - so you'll need to match the PanelDue firmware version to the Sketch so they assume the same type of PanelDue communication.
You can upgade the PanelDue firmware, but you'll also need to run RRF firmware 3.x something, refer to the PanelDue release notes.

I think we've seen Nero3D use PanelDue on stream, but can't say for sure it was with klipper but I do believe it is supported. However I'm partial to PITFT50 and CTP40 screens for the Pi - both were around $30 but have gone up a bit.
(Currently using OctoDash, pending the move to klipper but PITFT50 and CTP40 work great, and can VNC to the same interface, supports thumbnails. Love it, hoping klipper can match it)
Also yes, I'm hoping to settle for converting ender 3 to corexz instead of dreaming about building a switchwire. Then again, who knows, maybe I'll fall in a got of gold..
