Best way to 12v fan on 24v system

If it's a fixed-speed fan (not PWM), you could probably just use a dropping resistor. Measure the fan current, and set the resistance for a 12V drop. R=12/I where I is the current in amps. A buck converter is nice, but for a low-power load, where you don't care about efficiency, it's a bit of overkill.

I had the same need (Sunon 12V) and a buck converter solved the problem. Sunon fans are much better than cheap Chinese fans and worth the trouble IMO.

does Maestro have a voltage converter ? So can I drive the system with 24 v and cooling fan with 5 to 24v ?

There is a jumper for fan 2 so you can run the others at VIN and that at 5v. I do this on my printer. I use a Noctua 5v and the part cooling fan is a 50mm blower.

They're dirt cheap, very small, very efficient, and seem to be reliable, but be very careful with the voltage adjustment pot. They're small and light enough that you don't have to mount them on anything- after you set the output voltage, just cover the whole thing with shrink tubing and treat it as part of the cable.

@zapta I second the sunon fans. They last, and come in high CFM or low CFM for quieter.

I personally think the best way is to put wire two 12V in series though more fans! ( Edit: OK ok, I was being facetious there and I'll clarify this is NOT the way to do it, but the responses did bring me a smile )

It may work, assuming the two fans identical (same current consumption) and if PWM controlled, are subject to the same control.

(I have no experience with multiple fans in serial so don't know for sure).

The FETs on the fans have to withstand 24V when switched, no matter if the fans are in series. Unfortunately it's not like series resistors...
