Best way to 12v fan on 24v system

duet 3 boards allow you to set the fan output voltage to either 12v or 24v.
older boards will need a stepdown/buck converter -

then yes, you will need one unfortunately.
run the buck converter off the same PSU as the Duet. Connect the positive of the fan to the positive of the converter. Connect the negative of the fan to the ground of the fan connection. -

Can you run 2 fans, do them in series?

Maestro can run 24v and 5v. You haven't said which board you have.

Duex addons allow 12 V fans on 24 V system. Feel like adding some axes to your machine?

If it's a fixed-speed fan (not PWM), you could probably just use a dropping resistor. Measure the fan current, and set the resistance for a 12V drop. R=12/I where I is the current in amps. A buck converter is nice, but for a low-power load, where you don't care about efficiency, it's a bit of overkill.

I had the same need (Sunon 12V) and a buck converter solved the problem. Sunon fans are much better than cheap Chinese fans and worth the trouble IMO.

They're dirt cheap, very small, very efficient, and seem to be reliable, but be very careful with the voltage adjustment pot. They're small and light enough that you don't have to mount them on anything- after you set the output voltage, just cover the whole thing with shrink tubing and treat it as part of the cable.

@zapta I second the sunon fans. They last, and come in high CFM or low CFM for quieter.
I personally think the best way is to put wire two 12V in series though
more fans! ( Edit: 
OK ok, I was being facetious there and I'll clarify this is NOT the way to do it, but the responses did bring me a smile

It may work, assuming the two fans identical (same current consumption) and if PWM controlled, are subject to the same control.
(I have no experience with multiple fans in serial so don't know for sure).
