I was able to wipe that area with a microfiber cloth and get 2 of the 3 to work, but the third still will not. This is the most recent one that came in June. I don't see any discernible scratches or anything, it just flashes 7 times regardless...

  • Smart Effector flashes 7 times. (Strain Gauge Traces)

    Greetings --

Over the past 6 months, I have purchased 3 smart effectors (ideally for quick swapping nozzle/heater block configurations).

2 of them came (purchased 6/12 and 4/26) and immediately were flashing 7 flashes out of the box and an older one (purchased 3/9/2020) started flashing 7 times yesterday after working fine since purchase.

Per the smart effector docs, I'm assuming that something is amiss with the strain gauge traces, but not sure how it would have happened with the older effectors as I am always very careful in mounting and unmounting components.

    Current set up:

    • Anycubic Predator (24v power supply)
    • Duet 2 wifi (with PT100 daughterboard) running RR3.0
    • Smart Effector (with Volcano hotend and printed fan mounts)
    • Panel Due 5"

Attached are photos of the affected effectors:

  • RE: Smart effector flashes 7 times repeatedly.

@Phaedrux -- I have recently purchased a few smart effectors and without fail I have 3 of these that are flashing 7 times. I do have one that does work, so I'm pretty sure it's not anything having to do with the external set ups, but it seems strange to me that a bunch of them would have the same issue?

For reference, where are the strain gauge traces?

I get +3.284v on both the faulty effector and the working effector.

  • RE: Smart Effector Will Not Z-Probe detect

Sorry for not being clear. The green LED doesn't flash at all (which I believe is the same LED that signifies the Z probe hit.)

But like I said, the thermistors register the proper temp, so I know that there's power going to the device and that SOME of the connections are working.

  • RE: Smart Effector Will Not Z-Probe detect

So I have already commissioned the printer with another smart effector. I shouldn't have to change my settings right?

But to be clear, step 5 is where things fail. While I don't even get the LED to signal a successful startup, the thermistor registers the correct temp, so I know it's getting power and some things are working.

It's when I tap on the hot end and don't get the green light that I'm sure to have failed...

If I immediately unplug the faulty smart effector and replace it with another one, it works just fine. Same thermistor, hot end, heat sink, etc.

  • Smart Effector Will Not Z-Probe detect

    Greetings --

I recently received an additional Smart Effector (I have 2 already) and when plugging it in to existing connections, the z-probe hit doesn't register.

In my general debugging, I swapped out the new one with one of my existing Smart Extruders and there was no problem -- the Z-Probe and all electronics worked as expected.

I'm assuming that this Smart Effector is defective, but I'm told by my distributor (Filastruder) that I need to post to this forum to authorize the exchange. Are there other steps I should attempt in order to get the hardware running? I didn't have to go through it with the other ones...

Thanks in advance for your support.

  • RE: Smart Effector Fans work/LED Lights Don't Light Up

I appreciate your reply, but as I said, both fans work correctly. The hot end fan turns on when temp reached 45 and part fan turns on during print commands. I did originally set the 12v jumper and I do observe it still on here. I also have looked at the docs and that's why I'm reaching out to the forum. I believe that's what the forum is for, isn't it?

  • Smart Effector Fans work/LED Lights Don't Light Up

    Greetings --

I've had the smart effector for about a month -- at one point, the 3 LED lights on the bottom end worked, but it was for a very brief time. Now, despite the fact that both fans work correctly, none of the bottom LEDs light up.

NOTE: all status LEDs are currently working correctly.

Thanks in advance for any advice....

@dc42 -- I've seen from other posts that U3 failures are within warranty criteria. What do I need to do to start the warranty service process?

@bearer This is what I see when looking at the U3 chip: IMG_6498.jpg

Not sure if that's damage in that South-east ring, but could be?

t blown, check the int_5v_enable jumper is in place.
Take a picture of the little square black chip labeled u3 to see if there is any visible damage.

Thanks -- Like I said, checked all fuses and they were good. Will verify the other items.

Depends on how it's connected. I am comfortable soldering once I can identify the a proper replacement. Any suggestions as to how I can confirm your hypothesis?

  • Duet2 Wifi won't start with VIN, but does start via USB.

I have a Duet2 Wifi running on an Anycubic Predator with the Smart Effector. Earlier today, the wire from the heater fan was run over and shorted out the printer.

Disconnected the fan from the PCB and restarted the printer. Power supply turned on, but the board only showed the VIN light with none of the other lights activating.
I connected to the board via USB and board lit up correctly.

I've checked all the fuse blades and they are all still good.

Any idea what the issue could be and how I might resolve it?

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions! Turns out it WAS totally a mechanical issue. There was a grub screw that fell out of the stepper motor pulley on the back motor. Here are the results after adjusting!
