@o_lampe it’s the Duet 2 WiFi/Ethernet that is slowly losing features (or rather not gaining new ones), due to memory limitations as it has 512Kb flash and 128Kb RAM. No problem on Mini 5+, which has 1Mb flash and 256Kb RAM, at the same speed as Duet 2 at 120MHz. The 6HC and 6XD has more memory, at 384Kb, are faster at 300MHz.

@cosmowave It wouldn't be fair to omit the unsung heroes like @T3P3Tony and other members of the Duet "family". So cheers also to Tony et al.

@superjett said in Best way for Duet to act like limit switch for 3D Chameleon?:

@fcwilt Like mentioned, it takes time for the movement to go hit the switch, so this would eliminate those moves each color change.

Thanks - that much is understood.

      Do color changes happen frequently?

Or to ask it another way, given the total time a print takes (hours for me typically) how much time do you think you could save.

That's a good sign. It's pretty hard to kill a duet with a firmware update.

another option is a nozzle lifting mechanism -
this is something that i have been working on, to address similar issues with dual nozzles on a delta printer (can probably be mounted on most printer carriages with some modifications or adapter) -

      https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3335003

-the unused nozzle doesn't ooze or scrape the print
      -no waiting for temperature changes
-no prime tower needed (with correct settings, not consistent yet)
      relatively light and compact

so far i have it working nicely for dual colors and support materials

Cool stuff. I know from being a PLC programmer years ago that there had to be a something that would limit an axis but wasn't sure what.

      Thanks for indulging the question.

I'm using my old Fluke 75 from 1995 and you can't zero the leads out, so it's reading .7-.8 on a short and about 1.2 on the bed. So, it's anyone's guess what it really is.

What I decided on was to buy a 12v power supply and external MOSFET.

I plan on testing with the 12v cranked up to max and with my spare 24v lowered as far as it will go.

I'm not a fan of either of these options really because it's adding components onto my frame, but I'll be able to print.

I can't think of any reason why you would need to wait for 30 seconds.

Well I obviously have an interest in this but what everyone who uses piezo says after they get it working, (and it may take a little tweaking and tuning to get there) is "wow, this thing is amazing, my first layers are perfect now" or words to that effect.

So you know where I would go. The only other z-sensing system that is comparable in terms of convenience, accuracy, repeatability and versatility (use any surface) is the Smart Effector which works in the same way (but using a different sensing modality) and this is currently aimed at deltas although I'm sure you could adapt it with clever mounting, you can definitely adapt piezo to almost any printer.

The 7 inch fire tablet or similar should work well. I use a 4 or so years old nexus 7 inch tablet which i think is a higher resolution. You can use chrome's Dev tools to look and see what the web interface looks like at different screen sizes.

Worked great tonight, well except for me setting it 1 layer early. Thanks again.

Sure would be nice to have that as a function or programmable as a macro?
