Because high jerk is quicker but can trigger ringing and cause ghosting. This isn't a problem for infill that is in the middle of a part with three outer contours and three top and bottom layers.

From what I think you've said in the past ideal jerk is related to acceleration setting amongst other things, particually when referring to ringing, and cancelling the ring. Therefore where you can specify acceleration in a slicer we should also be able to adjust jerk.

That won't work on a delta, it will mess up the geometry.

RRF defines bed centre as the point that is equidistant from the 3 towers. But if the towers are not perpendicular to the bed then this won't be accurate.

Are you using pressure advance? Without it, short printing moves will tend to be under-extruded in the middle and over-extruded at the ends. Is that what is happening when you use the lines pattern?

I am not using pressure advance and, yes, I would say that the lines are under-extruded more in the middle compared to the ends.

I forgot to say above that it is, of course, a bowden extruder.

Belated thanks to those who replied.

I now think that the issue was caused by an unreliable hotend thermistor. It finally went so bad that the temperature would change sufficiently (and quickly enough) to produce heater faults.

Since changing the thermistor, the problem has not yet occurred again.
