      @droftarts @gloomyandy, as a follow up, I think I've found the culprit, I disconnected the boxturtle and booted the printer up all remaining boards connect without issue, with it connected I had a cascade failure of all boards but the mainboard, I belled the boxturtle cable out and it was fine, I did however find the positive and both CAN wires retracted in the plug, I've made good and now the printer is up and running the same print now, fingers crossed it completes with no issue!

      Solved...typical, just after I wrote this I thought to reinstall Bossa, and also change USB ports, it now works!

      @jay_s_uk thanks, I was hoping this was the case 🙂 it's a better option than using multiple tool boards!, I'll be keeping eye open for any updates

      @droftarts thanks for pointing me to the post, I didn’t think it was a possible firmware issue as it’s a new build and my other printer is on 3.5.1 and has had no issues, I’ve read through the post and yup it seems like the same problem, ironically since posting and moving the test print further out I’ve not had a fault, I will report if it happens again or try forcing the fault by printing closer to the pole.

      I tried renaming the JSON file to no avail, changed a setting after and rebooted the board but it behaves the same, I’ll try deleting it and generating a new one.

      @deckingman Thanks for the confirmation hopefully I can start making some headway, I had already read through the tool changing manual but to be honest, as much as made sense, it also didn't, couple that with the meta guide which was even worse until I found the github reference page, and I was truly struggling! thankfully you have filled in the gaps enough to hopefully get me sorted.

      Just a quick update if anyone stumbles across this thread - I've just completed my first successful print with a 6HC as an expansion board. The printer has XY and Z motors on a 3HC expansion board, U and V motors on a 6HC main board, and 6 extruders connected to a 6HC as an expansion board. The end stops for X U and Z are connected to the 6HC expansion board and these will stop the corresponding motors connected to other boards with no noticeable latency. The two hot end heaters and their corresponding thermistors are connected to the 6HC expansion board which all work as they should. The hot end liquid coolant pump is connected to the 6HC main board but works thermostatically with the sensor that is connected to the 6HC expansion board. So everything appears to be communicating with everything else as it should. This latest firmware update had to be done via Bossa/USB but from now on, all future firmware updates should work over CAN.

      In summary, this being the first use of a 6HC as an expansion board "in anger", some glitches and issues were to be expected but these have all now been resolved (at least for my particular machine). I will continue to monitor and report back anything to the Duet guys.

      @dc42 nothing of note I don't think... I have just started the printer to get this and the heater is active this time so it does appear intermittant.

      @phaedrux, After multiple attempts with both black and white paper including a comical poor chase the hot end around with the paper, I resorted to using just the bare unpolished aluminium bed, pretty much proof the glass bed is causing the sensor a head ache the two blue areas are chamfered screw holes I believe.

      I've added some notes to the Duet3 documentation on powering the SBC. When in doubt, power it separately.

      @PaulHew its Finally printing! It’s the worst 20mm calibration cube that’s ever been made but it’s printing!, It still needs the z height sorting as a lot of baby stepping was needed and the nozzle has also grazed the glass bed, the x axis and extruded steppers are also running hotter than I would like so I’ll reduce the current some more, and then start more calibration I guess!

      I have re-checked the VIN connections as suggested and also repositioned the board and added separate wires from the PSU to the bed heater VIN, I have also ordered new larger diameter wires to be on the safe side and future proof myself!

      I have re-checked all wiring for shorts and continuity and instead of posting a dozen bad pictures I've listed the connections I've made instead -

      VIN +/- = 24v PSU terminals
      Bed heater VIN +/- = 24v PSU terminals
      Out0 = to bed heater insuring the polarity is reversed as per the board

      Driver wiring as per original (outer wires direct with inner wires swapped over at the stepper motor plug, all re-crimped/soldered with extra insulation.
      Driver 0 = X stepper motor
      Driver 1 = Y stepper motor
      Driver 2 = Z stepper motor
      Driver 3 = Extruder motor

      Out 1 = Nozzle heater wiring same order as the it was removed from original board
      Out 4 =

      GND - Hot end fan NEG wire
      V_outlc1 - Hot end fan POS wire

      Out 5 = same as Out 4 but for part cooling fan

      Temp_0 = Hot end thermistor wiring same order as the it was removed from original board
      Temp_1 = Bed thermistor matching Temp_0

      IO_4 = X axis end stop

      GND - Signal
      IO4.in - Voltage

      IO_5 = Y axis end stop matching IO_4

      IO_7 = BLTouch V3.1

      IO7.in - white wire
      GND - Black+Blue wire
      IO7.out - Yellow wire
      5v_ext = Red wire

      SBC connector - RPI3B+ ribbon cable oriented the correct way.

      Sorry for the long post I have gone through as many of the guides and posts as possible, I just want to do everything right and not miss anything!

      Thanks again for your input 🙂
