Ah, okay, so I'm taking the information for the sensor from the S2 part of the config.g rather than the actual board input connection "Temp1".
Edit.
Which I beleieve means changing;
M118 S{"Message to Show: " ^ sensors.analog[1].lastReading ^ " C"} L1
to
M118 S{"Temp 2: " ^ sensors.analog[2].lastReading ^ " C"} L1

None at all; the AC SSR isolates the mains voltage from the Duet.

While usb cables can be of variying quality most should handle 500ma, usb standard allows for 1a, and micro usb is frequently used for 1.5a for battery charging so on the caveat the cable is of descent quality I'd not be too concerned about having both connected at the same time even if the ribbon cable might get disconnected.

@aquilux thanks for pointing this out - I replaced it with the correct one.

As far as I gathered, if it displayed the issue, it had the old firmware. Specifically, what it looked like was it would trigger twice -- once around 8-11 mm away, and once at the proper trigger height of ~2-3 mm. You could see it as a sort of intermittent illumination at the 8-11 mm distance. I don't think you could actually check the firmware directly without an AVR programmer, which I didn't happen to have. I solved the issue by buying a genuine part. 🙂

I will carve out some time to update my files this weekend. I'm now hosting at PrusaPrinters because Thingiverse is too unreliable. Will ping here when I get them up!

Sounds like it would be a meaningful upgrade for users.

It definitely takes the guesswork out of temp setting. At the end of the day you still have to find a temp that prints the plastic correctly, but it's nice to have some sort of consistency and accuracy for temps considering how important they are to the process and how much attention is given elsewhere for less.

And, having said ALL of that... I do believe I understand (but do not share) the perspective from the people who do want to run Oct.

Which why, way up at the top of this discussion, I was the first person to start describing (helping) how to do that.
