@fcwilt to answer your question, 3.4b6 fares well on my IDEX setup on a duet 3 mini 5+ with expansion board in standalone mode.

I've been holding off 3.4b7 because the new event system and changed behavior around heater faults, but mostly because I don't have the time to build my own macros to re-implement previous default behavior.

Having said that if it will work or not is subject to weather or not the firmware is only restricting motion on internal drivers when vin is below 10v or thereabouts. For sure if you have internal drivers configured the firmware does not allow motion when vin is missing (or below the threshold).

Are your external drivers perhaps powered outside of the Vin range for the Duet or?

RepRapFirmware does support rotary axes. The support for them has been improved in the recently-released RRF 3.2beta3.

Duet 3 and Duet 3 Mini have more memory available, so are the better choice for more complex machines.

Thank you. Yeah I was hoping for some real world experience or examples. As I understand the firmware has a large impact on the overall performance of engraving speeds given that GRBL-LPC is quite a bit faster than standard smoothie running on the same hardware. I am unsure how reprap stacks up and if the faster hardware of the duet 3D would be utilized. I believe my current bottleneck is in the way the hardware and firmware handle motion planning as I am trying to lay down as many dots as fast as possible on a helical path on cylindrical surface.

What factor would you say affects effector tilt most?

uneven rod length
skewed non parallel towers
tower position on the triangle

Yes. It is literally called "single Z probe". BUT... the machine doesn't care how far off it was before, during a multi point probe. There is no reason to chase this.

If you have a M501 in your config you can save the results of the calibration.
otherwise you replace the M665 and M666 in your config.g manually.

G32 is used to align the delta while assuming that the bed is perfectly flat.

G29 then probes the bed and compensates for an uneven bed.

if you have probed it you could for example issue a G29 S1 in your start g code of the thing you are printing to load the last probing results.

Only in the sense that they are both on the same PCB in the same environment. It's a proxy relationship, rather than direct. As the CPU warms up during a print, you'd expect the drivers to warm up as well. It's not a 1:1 ratio, and it's not equal across all drivers, but for the purposes of enabling a fan it's useful.

My fan for some reason makes some really funny noises when I lower the speed, so right now I have it at either 0% or 100%.

Perhaps experiment with adjusting the F parameter of M106 to change the PWM frequency. It may allow for better control at lower speeds. Values from 30 to 30000 are valid.

I'm not sure what the flag temps are for the Maestro drivers. For the Wifi I think the warning is around 80c.

It's still a work in progress, I had it stable and printing accurately but I just recently increased my nozzle size to 0.6mm and I am currently testing out increasing the speed back to stock. Dealing with stringing issues and layer adhesion at the moment. Once that is sorted I would like to make a basic menu for the 12864 lcd.

Are you using a Maestro? Any specific issues you having?

@dc42 Yes that was my first assumption. As far as I can tell, the connections are good. I ran PLA 190°C and ABS 235°C back to back. The PLA ran fine for hours, where the ABS would fail within seconds of starting the print. If it were wiring I assume that it would be erratic for both situations. Also it would be erratic when changing filaments (240°C). The issue only occured during printing.

Bit the bullet a week back and have gotten through maybe 10 hours of successful printing without the short to ground issue.

Not going to mess around with Stealthchop/Spreadcycle for now since the machine runs quiet enough.

Having some other trouble which I'll start a new thread over.
