The Bed.g file actually defines that you are doing a four point bed calibration. It is the coordinates of your four adjustment screws and not defining that you have steppers at those screws from my understanding.

The firmware supports Manual Bed Leveling using the Bed Leveling Assistant or Auto Bed Leveling when you have multiple Z steppers. The file bed.g is needed in either case but what the firmware does with that file is based on having or not having multiple Z steppers.

Here is a quick-and-dirty video of my printer auto leveling the bed using multiple steppers. I forced the bed way out of level just for the video.

The problem, as I understand it, with doing it as is done in your macro, is that the adjustment done at each point can affect the previous adjustments. The Bed Leveling Assistant computes how much adjustment must be done for each point so that there is no interaction. But, as you observed, it can be tricky adjusting the screws. I have found that with a bit of practice you get the hang of adjusting the screws and it becomes quick and easy.

If your macro works for you that is all that matters.

I recently changed to the E3D PT100 sensor and Daughterboard. The temps seem to be correct for the hotend but it has a hard time staying on temp. It seems to hunt around the target temp with a variance of about 0.1 - 0.9C even after a PID tune.

Regular oscillations about the target temperature when the print head is stationary suggest that the actual dead time of your hot end is higher than the M307 value. So try increasing the D parameter in your M307 command by about 25%.

Random fluctuations when the head is stationary are more likely to be caused by a bad connection, or by interference from stepper motor wires.

They are fragile. I've lost one in a head crash with the print once. Treat them gently like the precision measuring device they are and you'll be alright. Once installed, make sure the leads are secured for strain relief during operation and it'll be fine.

@Kolbi This is exactly what I am doing as well. The DWC just has the general filament type which makes it easier for unloading or loading filament.

The height map is created based on the slicer specified temp. This ensures that if I have a specific PETG that is slightly temp tweaked in the slicer I don't need to mess with a DWC filament change. It just takes care of itself at print time with a new heightmap.

@dc42 thank you. This is very helpful. I will give it a try. It seems the assistant you have asks the user to adjust per a given thread pitch. I do like the craftbot method of just continuously probing and letting the use make micro adjustments to see how close they are getting to the desired positions.

Perhaps once we have SBC capability on the Duet2 we can make more elaborate wizards and guided assistants.

I found what I was looking for. It looks like I can use the "active" parameter to return the target temp. I will leave the post up on case someone else is looking for the same thing.

Examples, assuming 0=bed heater:

heat.heaters[0].current (returns temp) heat.heaters[0].sensor (returns the heater number) heat.heaters[0].active (returns the target/commanded temp) heat.heaters[0].standby (returns the standby temp) heat.heaters[0].state (returns true/false for state)

@fcwilt appreciate the comment. I am just exploring different macros. I did have to go back to simpler home.g files as these weren't working for me.

However, after three comments about me "not using DWC filament handling" please post your filament files. I BELIEVE I AM using DWC filament handling. I just used a quick if statement to test out this macro as the author was using the filament config.g to heat the hot end whereas I am using the load and unload files to do set temps and just using the config.g to store config such as PID for that filament. But I am always open to being enlightened. If you can post your filament files I am curious what it is that I am missing out on.

@makemerush No problem. The orange part is that limit switch which is was specifically chosen because of it's activation distance as well as the tension it provides. Essentially this is killing two birds with one stone. The switch acts as an idler assembly to provide tension against the hob and at the same time also acts as a switch to statically detect filament presence.

The switch is attached to the switch assembly with a single screw so it can pivot. The hole on the top side of the switch assemble is used so you can insert a screw to increase or decrease tension and activation distance to tweak your setup. The screw just pushes the switch tighter against the hob.

The second thing that may not be obvious. Is the mount. I got great results once I used a rigid mount. You don't want this flopping around and only held on by the tube. I hope that helps.

BTW, with the new firmware beta released the L parameter can be used in the config.g to normalize the results between 0-100%.

I have ordered the rotating mag filament monitor but I would still like to see if this laser monitor can be salvaged. I would also really like to see if a small micro switch could be added for the static filament present state.

I am not great at CAD but this would be the difference.

Get rid of the spring and idler pulley Use a geared MK3 style dual extruder A support at the top and bottom to keep the filament straight and reduce slips due to the filament curve Add a micro switch inline (normally open)
