One short update here, may be a info that could go into the wiki also.

I use the switched +5 V power ot the ATX PSU to power the Duet and for switching on the duet I need to
keep the PS_ON lead from the ATX PSU grounded manually for ~3 seconds, after the blue LED near the wifi module
flashes a bit brighter and goes off.
Than the duet PS_ON pin goes to GND and I can release my mechanical push button.

Note : I decided to go this way, because I do not want all the electronics to consume power without any purpose.
I have (currently) no plan/need to switch the printer on remotely without being there to watch the print start.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, it is best to directly solder the wires to the sensor and connect it to a locking connector a few inches away. You have to remove the existing connector on the IR sensor in order to thru mount the wires into the connector plated thru holes. Once you connect to your harness, put kapton tape around the mating connectors to prevent accidental disconnects.

If you are not handy, I suggest adding some flexible but strong glue like E6000 around the joint to keep it in place. I wouldn't use a glue gun since it is not as strong as E6000.

That would be also my expectation.
The moving wires are the heatbed, but this runs over a SSR and I do not think a short circuit would cause this behaviour over the SSR.
I removed also the bed Thermistor (but did not heat then the bed) and still the issue.

So could be the wires running from top to the printhead carrier. I renewed already the connector to the IR probe, as this looked a bit suspicious.

As it looks as I'm the only one having this issue, it mustbe something with my build ?.

I will be next week on vacation and afterwards I replace the Duet 0.8.5 by the Duet Wifi. Lets see if this changes anything in this behaviour.
It is a pitty that the error occours only from time to time, making trouble shooting much harder.

The pin outs on the header are different enough that it would either be a really complicated cable, individual pin-pin cables (no recommended for long term use) or a PCB to provide the pin-pin routing.

Currently planned for production is a Duex5 which will have up to 5 channels of TMC2660s populated and a "dumb" interface board for external drivers, see the discussion here:

When I design he "dumb" interface board I might be able to add a header for duex4, depending on space and demand.

Likewise a massive reduction in noise.. I basically can't hear the steppers over the fans now..

Some people swear by it (sandblasted glass that is) I'll let you know how I get on. I haven't tried printing on plain glass - it's just that the instructions for my original RRP Mendel recommended Kapton tape and I've become fairly proficient at fitting it, so I've carried on. That's with a 200mm square bed and as the new one is 400mm square, I think I'll need to do something different.

I tried your probe with ground side up and ground side down. The trigger height is different but it works OK for me. Maybe it's the extra thickness (mine is 6mm)??
