For tax purposes before midnight I went ahead and ordered another Duet 2. If CNC mode and polar kinematics don't play well together at least I've got another board for a printer.

Best I can tell by printing various test objects, changing settings, trying S4, S6, S7, S8, and even S9 I do have geometrical error(s). Rotating the arms and effector does not change the results so I am relatively sure arm length and effector geometry is symmetric. At one early point I tried entering slightly different arm lengths (less than 0.5mm different) and got some really weird thing happening with auto calibrate where Z dropped during the first probe between the 2 probes (A5 S0.02) then scraping the bed moving to the second point and had to abort. I tried it a couple of times thinking my piezo system had a malfunction but as soon as I took the additional L values out it worked again. I am using 3.0beta5+4 so there might be something wonky when putting in different arm lengths.

I use Atomic CF PETG when I need CF, what I'm looking for is metal infused (brass, copper, bronze, stainless) for looks.

Thanks for the information. Extrapolating (yea I know) the line it appears to fall inside but right at the edge of the area. I don't know if it will make any real world difference but I think I'm going to try the SS-01E which is a low force model.

The bed is "mostly" an afterthought at this time because I don't know what that the final geometry of the printer will be. I want to get a rigid platform first, then get the arms on, check if everything is level. I have two sets of arms in development.

(Building the printer is more fun to me that 3d printing. Totally fun! trying stuff.)

Once the geometry is solidified I will do initial testing w/o a heater.

I am considering a bunch of options - I don't know the final diameter of the printer

--I am not going to run a DC heated bed through them (low voltage is higher amps)
--I will run the heated bed through an SRR

Thanks for the suggestion, using Kissslicer I figured out I could set M203 Z3000 in the "Printer G-code" "Prefix" and M203 Z30000 in "N[*] Layers with N=1 and that works.

This may be a windows problem, had to reinstall on a new ssd and the problem seems to have gone

I plan to implement conditional GCode before the end of this year. That will make this request easy to implement.

Best I can tell from this page on how Slic3r calculates it:

Given in mm:
Fd = filament diameter
Ew = extrusion width
Eh = extrusion height
Sl = segment length

E = (Sl * (Ew-Eh) * Eh + π * (Eh/2)^2) / (π * (Fd/2)^2)

Which is independent of nozzle size, which makes sense because (ignoring pressure changes, viscosity, etc) it would be based on the amount of filament going into the extruder. I'm sure there is some additional math for the items ignored since the formula above gives a slightly lower value than my slicer did.

M917 is only supported on the Duet Maestro. I have corrected the documentation to say that. The time before reduction to standstill current is a little under half a second. The reduction is done gradually over a period of about 50ms.

If you wired two coils in anti-parallel then the magnetic fields would oppose and the net result is near zero inductance. This would result in a rapid rise in current, because only the coil resistance would limit it.
