@dc42 well, here's the odd thing. I read that link and thought I understood it. I was running 3.5rc1 on Github and it would always just move 1 axis and sit there.

Today, I saw you linked a newer RC1+ build. I installed that, went back to read the input shapping page and put in two movements and I got both movements.

So perhaps, i was hitting a bug in 3.5. Now things make a lot more sense - i thought i was missing a step or needed to click the play button that the second movement had next to it.

Now it complete more than 1 axis and it says motion profile #2 is complete.

Now its time for me to see the data and see what to do next 😉 may have more questions but at least this latest build unblocked me.

but there is nothing in console other than showing lead screw adjustments.

The "response too long" message is trying to tell you that the lead screw adjustments results are too long to show as a popup and to see them in the console.

oh hahaha.. it took a bit for my brain to digest that. I was thinking there should be another error in the console not that the leadscrew adjustment warning was too big to show.

I think DWC used to show it in a green box but now it just throws that error popup

@dc42 is there a way to use some of the new conditionals to wait for a return code from m303 to continue on? (just thinking unix-y out loud)

Yes, the heater state is in the OM so you could loop waiting for it to finish tuning. But the console would be unresponsive until then, which is why I made it run asynchronously.

Found out my problem. I noticed one side of my printer was always sagging towards end of print, ran motor unlock and i could rotate left z and feel steps, but right z just spun - i guess my right z motor had failed.

Replaced my right z motor, and now bltouch is happy and i don't have to run g29 between each print... kind of surprised i got the quality i did with that motor having been bad or faulty for so long...

but, i'm back in business... no more crazy drift, nice level bed and great prints again. took the time to move to reprap3 firmware and enjoy it too!

thanks all! got it all figured out. It didn't click that i had it wired in a series with the 2 A:B setup... I put them on 2:4 and i have auto leveling perfection finally! 🙂 so happy since i'd just done a bunch of motor swaps and new plum connectors for the z rods so it was super easy to get level after fixing this!

@supernovae said in Is it possible to get rid of vertical banding?:

so I loaded up Slicer3, set my nozzle size, bed size and setup my start and end gcode and printed a new cube...
      no vertical banding!

I'm going to guess that you have Cura configured to use much higher acceleration and jerk values.

Also check the cura start gcode as it may be inserting some incompatible speed limits. Also check that it's set to use reprap gcode flavor.

To really see what's going on between cura and prusa slicer you would need to save a .3mf file from each of them and share them here. That would allow us to see the entire model, sliced gcode, and all the setting used for each slicer.

Glad you got it sorted out.

The coreXY setup guide describes a motor test you can do to ensure things are moving correctly. Also, as you realized, just because it homes to the right place doesn't mean it's not mirrored, since you're able to correct for the mixup by specifying the direction of homing in your files.

      https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/ConfiguringRepRapFirmwareCoreXYPrinter#Section_Movement_section

For a CoreXY or H-Bot machine, RepRapFirmware assumes that the motor connected to the X motor output moves the head in the +X and +Y directions when it runs forwards, and that the Y motor moves the head in +X and -Y directions when it runs forwards. [Note: firmware 1.18 and earlier assumes that the motor connected to the Y motor output moves the head in the -X and +Y directions when it runs forwards]. So you can start with these M569 commands in config.g:

      M569 P0 S0 ; X motor runs forwards
      M569 P1 S0 ; Y motor runs forwards
Then test for the correct X motor movement by sending these commands from the console:

      G91
      G1 S2 X10 F3000
If the head moves diagonally in the +X and +Y directions, all is well. If it moves in the -X and -Y directions, change the S parameter to S1 in the M569 P0 command. If it moves towards +X and -Y, or towards -X and +Y, turn the power off and swap the X and Y motor connections.

When you have the X motor moving correctly, test the Y motor by sending from the console:

      G91
      G1 S2 Y10 F3000
For firmware 1.19 and later: If the head moves diagonally in the +X and -Y directions, all is well. If it moves in the -X and +Y directions, change the S parameter in the M569 P1 command to S1.

For firmware 1.18 and earlier: If the head moves diagonally in the -X and +Y directions, all is well. If it moves in the +X and -Y directions, change the S parameter in the M569 P1 command to S1.

Important: make sure that you have chosen a right-hand axis system. That is, looking down on the printer the +Y direction should be 90 degrees anticlockwise from the +X direction. If instead it is 90 degrees clockwise, you have a left-hand axis system, which will give you mirror-image prints.
