      @moth4017
So I tried on the bed heater OUT0 line - and I got the same response with buzzing!

As I was poking around thinking the buzzing was a weird wiring short, I was able to change the pitch when I touched the power inlet ferrite inductor beads. I removed them and the problem was solved.

      But WHY????

Ferrite inductors should smooth the voltage at the power inlet, although also probably changing the impedance. Anyone have an idea why that would cause buzzing from the board (mosfets?)?

@TLAS said in Limit heater ramp rate?:

I need the power at maximum temperature to counter radiant heat loss, so running the heater at a lower PWM wouldn’t work.

Can you set a gcode Daemon job that will adjust the max PWM rate to the current temperature? E.g. every few seconds.

EDIT: It may confuse the PID but this may also we adjusted with the increased temperature.

EDIT: Another option may be to adjust the PID, for example, reducing the P value (?). Dave should know better.

@TLAS the standard mini thermocouple connector is nearly 17mm wide, so fitting two of them on the thermocouple daughter board would not be feasible.

There are some smaller thermocouple connectors available but I haven't seen any in widespread use. Most thermocouples I see advertised are wire ended, not terminated in a connector.

The Duet3D daughter board works with several different types of thermocouple, not just type K. We have users who extrude very high temperature materials and use other types, and for them including a type K thermocouple connected would be a disadvantage.

So in short, we don't have any plans to do this. The screw terminals seem to work well with any type of thermocouple. If you connect the wires the wrong way round then it is quickly obvious, because the temperature reading goes down when the heater is turned on.

We could do a custom run if sufficient quantity was requested. The minimum quantity that was economical to make would probably be a few hundred. Alternatively you could do your own variant starting from our open source design files.

No idea if the hardware allows for it, but I would very much be in favor of some quality camera module than can interface with the Duet 3s in standalone mode, even if the update rate might be severly limited to like 1fps or so.

It would be nice to see this in a well-integrated package, space efficient so that it can be easily integrated in tight corners of the printer etc, maybe include a thermistor for measuring chamber temp?

      Maybe via CAN even?

For a great look, I would say, first rule do not have anything hanging outside (tethering cables, spools, etc).

Do a quick look for CNC-Gantry. Great motion system (if not a bit overkill) and shows more of the industrial design space.

      Agreed.

What’s the ‘commonly available’ point and what’s the tipping point of working on an ‘advanced feature’? Hard questions to answer.

With Oculus Quest at $300 and pushing into the Augmented Reality / Digital Workspace sphere (See the immersed app, it’s really good), I do think it might be getting close. Scales probably won’t fully tip until Apple or Samsung puts out a mainstream device.

I can really get behind a virtual interface from a ‘Digital Workspace’ standpoint, but if you’re not already working in a digital VR environment, it’s easier to just pull up a webpage on whatever you are using.

A mainstream augmented reality device might be entirely different though - I’d totally put on a pair of glasses to access an augmented reality machine interface or have one pop up if I’m already using one.

Realistically, I think we’re 3-10 years out from mainstream AR devices at low cost. VR mainstream could be 1-3 years. Replacing PanelDue / screens / keyboards / mice from a hardware standpoint does sound appealing. It’d need to be rock solid though.

You need to derate by 0.5, leaving you with 3.5 amps. A far cry from the originally promised 10!
