    @mickeey

    the smart effector is original duet and the problem is there. the card was on another printer and never had problems

    I think the fan0 connector failed because you wired the fan backwards. If you want to fix it, try replacing the MOSFET. See https://docs.duet3d.com/en/User_manual/Troubleshooting/Parts#fan-mosfet

    I think you should also check the plug on the Smart Effector that connects to the Duet 2 board. These pins look like they are not fully inserted into the housing. There also looks like there might be some wires poking out, that may cause a short.

    you had region on fan 2 everything works. thanks for all the support

    Great, glad you got it working. Please check the above.

    @patterson6 They're in stock, I think for a couple days stock ran out, but nearly immediately restocked. Could have signed up for restock emails?

    Most, nearly all Volcano nozzles are in stock. Which materials/sizes are you wanting?

    Thanks for the follow-up. The one picture was taken before and one after but I just held the wire on there with my finger and did not solder it on. Thank you, I will send the email a little later. I do appreciate all the help from everyone!

    @oarjjj said in v2.0 consistently increasing probe heights:

    I am starting to think it may be an issue with the E3d Lite6, possibly its spring is compressing? I'm not sure.

    There should be no compression available on the E3D lite 6 with a Revo nozzle as the compression spring is there to hold the nozzle heat-break assembly tight against the thread of the body after hand tightening it, so when in constant use it does not come undone and also to allow the heater element a degree of heat expansion.
    The only case i have ever had with a loose nozzle was with a customer who had not tightened it it up fully and they kept getting a very inconsistent filament laydown and jagged edges as it would oscillate as it was moving. I am running 3 Delta printers all Anycubic Predators converted to linear rails and all using version 3.5 on Mini + 5 boards and all the motors directly from the motherboard with the Hemera sx extruders without any expansions as I have never needed them nor have i ever any issues to warrant using expansion board as I get extremely good prints.

    @Phaedrux
    The documentation of the Smart Effector says:
    The version 2 and later Smart Effectors perform an additional self-test at power up to check that the strain gauge output is within the expected range. This test may fail during the first few seconds after power up as the voltages settle, so it is repeated until it passes. Therefore, if your sensor flashes 6 or 7 times once or twice before it flashes twice, this is normal. However, if it continues to flash 6 or more times, the sensor is faulty:

    7 flashes - strain gauge output out of tolerance (too high)

    It is an old sensor, I bought it with a second hand non working delta printer. Don't know its life history or age.

    I measured the voltage drop across each resistor and found one that had much more across it than all the others. When I tried to redo the solder joints the resistor split in two parts. Replaced with a new smaller (1206) 100 Ohm resistor. This will not be strain sensitive. Replacing another resistor in the same way.

    The sensor works now, probably with reduced sensitivity, Flashes twice at startup.

    I have no photos since I didn't know about the crack until I resoldered the resistor.
    The crack was not visible under amagnifying glass.

    If it happens again I think I will try to glue six real strain sensors to the board as a better fix.

    @gorf32 is the problem when the hot end is hot, or when the hot end heater is actually 'on' (ie heating)? If you try probing with the M558 B parameter set to B1, does that help? If it does, I expect the heater PWM is causing interference. If not, I would think that the heat is causing the Smart Effector PCB to expand, so changing the reading; try adjusting the sensitivity, see https://docs.duet3d.com/en/Duet3D_hardware/Accessories/Smart_Effector#programming-the-sensitivity

    @dc42

    Thank you very much, David. I didn't even consider the "impact" differential with plastic in the nozzle. I was also always calibrating cold. I never considered plastic at the tip might soften the hit and would change the readings. I was originally posting because I was curious about the deviations other users had, and I had no frame of reference for what "normal" would look like.

    I will try calibrating at temps with no filament, and it should be more precise and will probably help with the z offset deviation. Why I thought calibrating a machine cold when it only functions hot is anyone's guess. Many thanks.

    @blt3dp said in Smart Effector with Toolboard - no programming?:

    @achrn

    I’d love an effector that supported can without having to lash on a tool board, doesn’t seem that it’s gonna happen though.

    Me too, but I decided to bite the bullet and do my own smart effector - toolboard combination. I am intending a 'My Duet controlled machine' post soon (but I have to take youngest daughter back to university this weekend). If the weather's as bad as it's forecast to be on Monday maybe then...

    In summary, I've got a laser-cut aluminium plate to push the rods out to 80mm spacing and that gives me space to put on an Orbiter 2 extruder and a toolboard. I did do a bit of smart effector surgery (removed some connectors and soldered wires direct), but that might not be necessary with some slight changes. I lose about 15mm of Z, but nothing in X & Y. I've improved my cooling. Very happy with it so far.

    @elmoret thanks. That was what I was hoping.

    That's the way the person at E3D I spoke to was suggesting I guess but odly it works out cheaper to just make the set out of spare parts. Go figure 😆

    in the video it looks like the fan shroud hits the bed before the nozzle. Also it goes way to slow to probe...

    Make sure what part hits the bed before. If not the nozzle, fix it.
    2.- Probe at 1200 mm/min at least

    @dc42 Yes. My idea is having a solid strain relief anchor point on top of the direct extruder. As I am routing 23 wires to the hotend (heaters, fans, extruder, smarteffector and accelerometer) I am using a 2x12p Microfit and from there routing the wires in bundles to the molex KK and JST. I expect those connectors downstream of the Microfit will not suffer any stress because all is taken by the Microfit. I agree that the Microfit is not an easy connector to deal with. I bought a cheap extractor from aliexpress that seems to do the work

    @wbrokow1 the RRF part for Smoothieboard and other LPC processor based boards is no longer maintained, due to the low amount of RAM provided by that processor.

    The Smart Effector should work with Smoothieware excep that you won't be able to program the sensitivity.
