WoW! 12 mm rods, I use 8 mm rods with no problem. I use good quality rods from McMaster Carr and solid linear bearings that are coated for less friction. Smoother then the cheap ball bearing type.

I have been considering using the Smart Effector on my Corexy and mounting it with the Mag Ball setup, just cut off the shafts and use the cup bearing and magnet. Easy on/off. I am using the Mini differential IR height sensor on my corexy with no problems and the Smart Effector on my Delta, both work great.

Before I got my Delta Smart Effector, I was using a modified version of this Thing:

As delivered, it has 20x20 screw spacing; but I had to modify it for 20x16 spacing to attach to the sliders I'm using, which I accomplished by editing the "for (y = [-10, 10])" line to "for (y = [-3, 13])". I made a few other tweaks, too.

When I got my Smart Effector, I needed to change the ball stud spacing to 55mm, which is done via the rodSeparation and ballStudDistance variables (they're semi-redundant). I'm now using my modified version of this Thing with my Smart Effector, without the carriage pieces provided with the Smart Effector. This seems to work fine – or at least, as well as can be expected. (There's a bit too much play in my carriage, and printing parts like these, rather than using manufactured parts, might be a contributing factor.)

In any event, you should be able to make similar changes, just with a tiny change for 20x15 spacing. If you're not comfortable with OpenSCAD, I could do this for you and send you the files; PM me if you want this. Note that I can't promise how whatever I produce would mate with your slider; it might be awkwardly high or low. If you do it yourself, you can adjust the y range in that "for" statement to get it to fit the way you want.

You could connect a 1M resistor between the hot end metalwork and just about any connection you choose on the Smart Effector, other than a thermistor connection.

I t would be nice if Escher or who ever created the original part cooling design would create something using a 50mm blower instead of a fan. The blower is much more efficient and quieter at the required speeds.

A number of others have published designs for mounting a blower on the Smart Effector, and they are easily found using a search engine.

Pleased to say the Flex3Drive SMART effector version is not a more expensive special. Its an extension of the existing wide range available, just havent gotten round to listing it as yet due to workloads, although I should prioritise this 🙂 Never enough hours.

You can easily order if you wish to by selecting the Kossel or XY G4 and include a buyers note stating you require for the SMART effector (or just email me a note), and the appropriate version will be provided. This will include all mounting hardware and the compact cooling solution based on 25mm fans which are supplied and included in the cost, as with all Flex3Drive variants.

Alternatively you can use 30mm fans, utilising the standard E3D hotend fan and shroud. Part cooling for 30mm fans will be along very shortly (wip), which will mount to the effector, alongside use of the E3D hotend fan and shroud.

This was my solution

Sunon 30mm blowers 5v but will pwm down from 12v if you limit them in your slicer to 30-40% (you can blast them at 12v for short periods such as bridging). I have found they work quite nicely with diffuse airflow but you print and bond ducts to them if you wish.

No loss of print volume as they sit under the effector. Brackets I can put on thingiverse, just bond fans on with superglue/ca glue.

I have them in my shop.

Yeah you are probably right about its unusual to use these, but i found it quite handy.
When printing flexible materials (where retraction cannot be used with a bowden) its beneficial to use much higher accelleration and jerk to keep the pressure level as constant as possible and reduce oozing on travel moves (as they are faster). Overall this produces nicer parts, even when ringing artifacts could be worse.
Additionally with Simplify3D its realy nice to use multiple processes to print faster on non critical parts and slower where fine details matter.

Just ordered a smart pcb effector and a zesty nimble. Im not quite sure if i will be happy with the nimble, but it looks like its currently the best solution.
