some slicers have a setting to make the tip go back over the part while doing a retract, this may help prevent the blobs if they are being caused by retracts.

In Slic3R it's called "Avoid crossing perimeters" and you are right to point out that it might help.

This is a known issue with this forum software, I will look into it when I get a chance (but the hardware dev work and other stuff around that is really busy right now!)

If all the LEDs went off including the blue one, then the power to the Duet kept failing. Possibly causes include:

Bad power in connection. Check that the VIN terminal block screws are tight. Something drawing more that 30A shortly after power up. But I would expect you to see signs of charring if anything on the Duet was doing this. A fault in the PSU causing its overload protection to trigger falsely.

Your suggestions are all right, in fact these are the first things I thought and controlled, unfortunately I find nothing unusual and then, as I wrote before, I launched a test print and everything worked well.
So I guess there's no log, right? If I enable debugging in the firmware what happens?
Do you completely exclude a possible bug under certain conditions?
Are you aware of the slight anomalies with the web interface?

The wiki says the default path is /sys and some firmware will look into /macros
So probably RRF skips /macros

Yeah so there must be some interference from that LCD, 20x4 character LCDs are not supported yet either. At least we now know what the issue was!

I noticed this as well, you saved me creating a thread about it. I was wondering why some people were suggesting hostname.local because from the code this clearly does not work on Duet Ethernet, the code to handle mDNS is specific to the Duet Wifi.

Not a big issue but with the soon-to-be-released 1.19 firmware the IP address will change for those using DHCP. If mDNS was supported then this would have been transparent (not trying to complain, I work in software and I understand you can't fix everything at once!).

You need to set up the config.g file for your printer. There are instructions on the wiki.

If you created your config.g file using configtool, you will have selected whether or not config-override.g is processed.

I feel your pain, customer service is nonexistent these days (with a few notable exceptions) and they'll say it's because they aren't making enough profit on an item to do things properly. Personally I think it's because people can't say "I don't know" and go find out from someone who does, so they make it up, get it wrong and cause customers and themselves trouble.

As described at https://duet3d.com/wiki/G-code#M584:_Set_drive_mapping, when using M584 to map drives you must also specify the mapping for the drive that was previously using the driver, in this case E1. So you should have used:

M584 Z4 E3

Otherwise driver 4 is used by both Z and E1, so the settings for using it as Z may get overridden by the settings for E1.

As others have written, your best option is to configure your router to always give the same IP address to your printer via DHCP. The router vendors have different names for this. Sometimes referred to as DHCP Reservation, sometimes referred to as Manually Assigned DHCP address.

Yeah the dump area idea is probably less wasteful. You can mix extruder types sure as long as each is calibrated correctly.

There's a lot to commend mixing hotends like diamond such as wipe and prime-free colour printing, Ian is resident expert there. Switching is just easier in some ways, trickier in others.

To be fair I got dual extrusion setup and working then gave up on it as my flying bracket was making my machine heavy, slow and less accurate. Dual/triple cable driven extruders would probably be the optimum.
