The runtime vs load will depend entirely on what batteries you decide to pair it with. I chose a pair of 12V 20AH but I don't think there is any reason why you couldn't use a pair of say 200AH. The printer would likely run for a week on batteries if you did that (and take another week to recharge them) ☺

@droftarts Thanks for the links! They led me to take a closer look at the gcode documentation. The M563 documentation says the following:

"It is permissible for different tools to share some (or all) of their drives and heaters. So, for example, you can define two tools with identical hardware, but that just operate at different temperatures."

It seems, then, that the easiest thing is to get that expansion module and define tools 0 and 1 to use the extra drive, in the same way that they already share heater 1.

@zapta I would imagine they want to avoid too much slicer specific gcode.

However, I think most slicers are able to output conditional gcode at the start, end, and before and after layer changes.

Perhaps we as duet users agree to put a header comment such as:

;USES LAYER IDENTIFIERS

...and on layer change:

;END OF LAYER 0

Where 0 increments by 1 for each layer number.

In the mean while identifying a build position by height, or running a simulation before the print should work around whatever issue the layer number was needed for.

Here is the same printer 3 months later. I had to replace the heater due to broken cables, updated to the DICE specific hotend in the process, switched the belt carriage to one that clamps the belts with screws instead of gluing them in, fixed some screws, did remove all the various voltage fans with 5V ones, and added a small 12864 controller to the Maestro.

It's still due a few upgrades (I will need to find someone milling me the front plate with the air intake hole and an integrated holder for the 12864 rather than having one put on a 3d printed front plate with double sided tape, and I recently learned the hotend fan is not the right version (too little airflow, which explains my heat creep issues).

As for sample printed parts, the following picture has the motor bracket and flexshaft coupler for a remote direct extruder, as well as the under-effector fan assembly printed on the DICE with reasonable success. Maximum print speed was a conservative 100mm/sec

I don't think so. When I think about it, the catastrophic jam that forced me to dismantle the hot end to clear it was almost certainly caused by heat creep. The makers of the Mosquito suggest that their tiny little 25mm fan should be OK run at 70% of full speed. That might be OK when running PETG or a similar high temperature filament, but when there isn't a clear path behind the hot end's heat break so that the tiny amount of air that the fan moves can flow freely, the heat break quite quickly gets hot enough to cause a jam with PLA.

In my case, the duct to the part cooling fan and part of the hot end mount run down behind the hot end's heat sink:

This compromises the overall air flow and even at 100%, the little 25mm fan just can't keep up. Maybe if I moved it to an always on fan connection, but in the end, I printed an adapter so that I could use an E3D 30mm fan. That keeps the heat break cool enough to print PLA now.

The other jams I had were certainly because the filament was too wide, but in those cases, the filament actually started to bind in the feed tube from my dry box to the printer. I run all my filament from a modified Polybox with PTFE tubes all the way from the box to the extruder. When not being used for printing, my spools of filament are stored in mylar bags with a 100g pouch of desiccant until they are needed.

Due to a lack of room in my apartment while I'm waiting for daughter number two to move out, my printer lives in my kitchen and that's probably the worst place possible from the point of view of humidity. Even so, this summer has been particularly humid here in Sweden and it's always good to be able to keep your filament dry and dust free anyway.

So for anyone reading this - please if you are using a Tevo Tarantula (or an extruder from one), check the bowden tube isn't pulling back into the extruder gear on retractions!

Yep, almost 100% sure this is the issue that started this whole mess! Then swapping in a stepper motor with different wiring at the plug caused me to blow the driver! Ahhh. Lesson learned (£170 lesson sadly - new TMC2660 chips and eventually a new board). On my setup it's impossible to see into the drive gear so I couldn't tell this was happening and when extruding the mangled bowden tube then pushed back to where it was meant to be but almost completely closed stopping it extruding properly! No idea how I got away with it working for a few years as it seems a flawed design!

Big Fanatic's Printer... yep, that's it.

My goal was fast printing too; rather than go for a beefy solid frame I have soft rubber feet, as little moving mass as I can manage, and all the weight under the bed. She sways quite a lot, but this doesn't seem to translate into print artefacts.
The best speed modification turned out to be a 60W heater cartridge, lots of niggling layer inconsistencies at high-speed simply disappeared when I fitted and tuned that.

No I did not. PLA is my base and I do not use baby steps with it.
I use a Z offset when I am printing in PET-G but I do that in the slicer.

Can you share some gcode of something that prints really small? Then we can at least see what the gcode is doing. Alternatively you can import gcode into Cura and check it looks sensible.

I find with mine that the bed stays basically flat all the time. I fixed my bed to the z axis frame meaning I have no manual adjustment. I only ever have about 0.175mm of deviation anyway from when the motors are off until the bed is level. I do run the probing sequence for leveling 3 times to get the best accuracy. I found that stubborn parts that required a bit of brute strength to get off would cause bigger deviations and it took several goes at it to re level the bed.

There shouldn't be any problem using Cura with Duet, if you prefer it. I tend to use Cura for convenience/ease of use/generally good quality gcode. Are you having particular problems?
