Just an aside. I was looking at CPU utilization on my Pi and noticed that motion uses a lot of CPU.

I've replaced it with this approach - which, for my purposes (streaming only) is MUCH more lightweight.

The fuse's job is primarily to protect the wiring from prolonged faults that arent a dead short circuit which is an infinitely high current on paper.

Those faults are quite rare, and the 200% fuses will blow almost as fast in response to a dead short, and the mosfets will most likely fail before the fuse blows in such a scenario.

Still, I'd put in more reasonable fuse if I had them on hand; odds are is unlikely to protect the board any better, but could in theory prevent a fire by overloading the wires if they're not rated for the same as the fuses.

It's normal to get a single write error to each driver during initialization.

If the print stops again, run M122 immediately and post the result here.

The values are on schematics in the two threads linked above i believe.

I think i used 330R for the SPI and 1K for the interrupt, iirc wilriker started off with 500R. Its just to limit the current to avoid potential damage to the pi/duet.

Buffer does sort of the same, it give the duet a high impedance (low current) input to drive. Roughly, I can't say I've studied the datasheet for the part they used on the Duet3, but the goal is never the less to keep things safe with low currents.

@Frederik I tried to run a parts cooling fan on 24v taken from the power input connector, the negative to OUT2. The parts cooling fan started when the hotend was heated up. Around 170C, the heating failed and the temp went to 2000C. This happened several times, even after a fresh boot. Only fixed when I went back to 12v.

If you have a free driver you could have each Y stepper on it's own driver.

Change from:

to
M584 X0 Y1:4 Z2 E3
or something similar.

I'm glad you solved it! Bear n mind that the Duet 3 has 27K pullup resistors on the inputs, so any low pass filter you add should have a low enough resistance so as not to affect the low-level voltage significantly. A 1nF capacitor connected between the input pin and ground would probably be sufficient, but then the output transistor in the NPN sensor will discharge this rapidly when it turns on. That is unlikely to harm the sensor, but if you want to avoid it then I suggest a series resistor in the range 100R to 1K between the sensor output and the capacitor/IOx_IN pin.

Yes they are open drain, and when I test them I use Noctua fans.

T-1 P0 then T0 is OK if you don't want to run tfree.g for the outgoing tool (if any). T-1 then T0 mimics the behaviour of old versions of RRF.

@MortarArt, do you plan to connect three steppers in series to a single duet driver output?

In this case, you one to shut the current of one stepper of the three you just need to short it two coils, letting the current bypassing it.

There are issues with connecting/disconnecting coils under power but I think that shorting/unshorting one of the tree in series is safe and doesn't create voltage spikes(?). Others with more experience may comment.

Just make sure not to short all three steppers and the same time since it will short the Duet's output and may damager it.

You also want to run everything in 24V and limit the speed of your Z.

I just got the new motor and it works fine, so it was the motor.

RepRapFirmware enables drivers automatically when you try to move them.
